As expected, Tom Cable followed his OC at Atlanta, Greg Knapp, to Oakland to become the OL coach under new head coach Lane “Play Happy” Kiffin. Dorrellistas were praying for the prodigal return of Cable to Westwood under our new OC ‘Training Jay’ Norvell. Thinking that Cable 2 at OL would complete the perfect coaching trifecta under Dorrell, apologists were predicting national championship run. Instead, we got a guy who never called a play in his life at OC and no OL coach heading into the second week in February. We can’t wait to see who Dorrell comes up with to replace his previous great OL coach pick, with “NFL coaching experience,” Jim Colletto - who took off, or was sent off, to Detroit days ago.
Ever since Jim Mora was dumped by the Falcons, OC Greg Knapp and OL coach Tom Cable have been looking for work. The Contra Costa Times is reporting that Greg Knapp has found work as the Raider’s new OC. Now that Knapp has been hired by Raider’s new head coach Lane Kiffin, Cable should follow him as OL coach. It has already been reported that Cable interviewed for and has been offered the OL coach position by Kiffin. Anything can happen of course. What’s going to be real interesting is that Kiffin said he will call all the plays on offense. Good luck kid.
The possibility of Cable 2, of Tom Cable coming back as OC, appears good. Pretty fortunate for Dorrell if it happens. Cable obviously knows the offense and most of the players, and they know him. It’s an easy transition for everyone, and Cable had some success here even with Dorrell.
