We really don't want to write this post, we really don't want to focus on TJ Simers … really, who cares?! But Karl Dorrell is history, and Simer's is still raging about it. And the focus of his rage is DumpDorrell.com. We promised we'd respond fully, so here it is. read more
TJ Simers must be losing relevance. For the third time in 2 weeks he has resorted to attacking DumpDorrell.com and our mission. WTF?? Is he looking to start a fight with a blog?? Weak. More importantly, he still doesn't get it. This site is not about Dorrell and never has been. This site is about excellence in UCLA football. That is is why we aren't talking about Dorrell anymore. We are focusing on what UCLA football needs now … and Dorrell is irrelevant. We will have more to say on this later as an addendum to this post.
We read TJ Simer's latest attempt to Save Dorrell late last night when it was first published online. It appeared in today's paper and we have received a lot of comments and emails regarding the piece. Simers obviously is butt hurt by our comments here at DD, and comments by so many on the Bruin internet, regarding his lame flip-flopping attempts to save Karl Dorrell that he can't just let it go. Truly, we have said enough about Simers and unlike Simers we felt that the story has moved on … and it has. But since many of you are asking about it, we will address TJ's comments about DumpDorrell.com: read more
Ok, much to get to so let's get to it. Brian Dohn, Daily News, shockingly lays out the Replacement Candidates but not, of course, without pushing his Save Dorrell agenda again - you'll love who he brings out this time. AND HERE THEY ARE (Dohn): read more
Dorrell's final days are being written up by more sports columnists and dare we say even the guy who has the biggest man-crush on Dorrell, Trev Alberts. Let's start with Daily Breeze writer Mike Waldner (HT to Nestor at BruinsNation):
Coach (Dorrell) has had ample time to demonstrate his strengths and weaknesses. Not even a win Saturday will save him from a pink slip.
You should have a read of Waldner's entire piece. read more
If this circus that has been going around town trying to Save Dorrell hasn't entertained or wowed you enough then TJ Simers has something for you. Today, as part of his flip-flopping campaign to Save Dorrell, Simers pulls out the final word, the Humanitarian himself, Pete Carroll. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig, Simers:
On (Dorrell's future), though, you would think Carroll would be considered an expert.
"I think (Dorrell's) done a fantastic job," Carroll said. "I think read more
Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated speaks the truth … again. While our beat and local press are out there campaigning for Karl Dorrell (TJ Simers, Bob Keisser, and Brian Dohn), the national press is telling it like it is. Another case in point is Mandel's recent mailbag column in which he answers emails from fans. Here is what Mandel had to say about an email that pertains to Mr. Mediocrity (HT to DD reader Fred Wallin): read more
You think Dorrell getting fired is a lock?!! Today we get another pathetic final plea to save Karl Dorrell. This time it's TJ Simers with an article about how it would be a mistake to fire Dorrell. What a piece of work TJ is. Just 2 days ago he calls UCLA's football program a "joke" and now, even after saying it was a mistake to HIRE Karl Dorrell, TJ says it will be a mistake to FIRE Karl Dorrell. WTF?? And you want another WTF? TJ uses the same pathetic excuse the race-baiting hypocrite Bob Keisser of the LB Press Telegram used yesterday in his last gasp plea to save Dorrell … injuries (TJ):
UCLA didn't get it right when they hired him, which wasn't his fault. Now they'll probably goof again and fire him for things again out of his control. He goes into Saturday's game against the ninth-ranked team in the nation with his fourth-string quarterback, a week after playing a walk-on at running back and a scrambling quarterback with a tender hamstring. Name a coach who looks like he knows what he's doing when armed with so little.
TJ goes on to show how Carroll has only had to deal with a 2nd string QB starting just once (which is the sole reason why he is winning and Dorrell isnt??!!) … how convenient that he chooses to overlook coaches from all the other … oh … 118 Div 1 football programs out there who continue to win WITH injuries. Say, for example, Utah! Utah, read more
TJ Simers pretty much devoted his column yesterday to you all, "the Dump Dorrell crowd." Oddly, he was kind … well sort of. First, Simers sets up the final moments of the Cal game and how it all was on the line for Dorrell and UCLA football on one single play:
Just a minute to go in Saturday's game, and it appears (DC DeWayne) Walker's career is developing quite nicely if he wants to be a head coach. And soon.
Cal is in position to essentially end the Bruins' season, the Dump Dorrell crowd swelling, the pressure about to mount on Guerrero. One minute to go and Guerrero is standing on the goal line, arms folded, judge and jury, watching Dorrell's team. The Rose Bowl is alive with noise and excitement, as good as it gets — as horrible as it might be if all goes askew in the next few seconds.
As we said, one play - one single play - ended up being the fine line between Dorrell getting hammered for another loss and Dorrellistas talking national championship again. Crazy, manic stuff. If Guerrero read more
TJ Simers has written a solid piece about Karl Dorrell this morning. The thrust of it is this:
Dorrell's margin of error this season has now been reduced to almost nothing.
We agree. Now, Dorrell can still technically go undefeated in conference play, win the championship and go to a BCS bowl .. the Rose Bowl.
Now it's on Dorrell to rally the troops, all right, all that on-the-job training coming into play, a successful season still very much within reach.
It can happen, so that is why we are waiting on our campaign. But we don't expect sudden and sustained greatness from Dorrell. After all, this is a guy who STILL will not admit, maybe he doesn't even understand(!), that he failed to put our talented players in a position to win - with a solid game plan and adjustments. He fails to admit he was out-coached, out-schemed, out-planned and out-adjusted. He still pins the loss on the players: read more
