Karl Dorrell: We Are Not As Good As People Thought
"We're not quite as good a team as most people thought," Dorrell said. "I always said that I thought we're a good Pac-10 team with a chance to win the championship."

Snoop Dingo didn’t take kindly to Les Miles’ recent comments on SuC and the Pac-10 that caused a firestorm in college football. So he had some words for Lester in defense of his buoys. You have to listen to (faux) Snoop’s hall of fame rant. Hi-larious (HT to oc phil at EDSBS).
Sometimes you come across a post on another site that says it all. We found one such post featured on BruinsNation by Bruin Blue. You may have already read it, but we wanted to get it on our site for the record. It's good, after the jump. read more
So are we, Karl, so are we!! In another mind-numbing attempt to raise hope with cliches, Karl Dorrell spoke with Lonnie White of the Trojan Times a little more about his decision to fire first year offensive coordinator Jim Svoboda. In defending his own poor record in keeping OCs and a functioning offense, Dorrell offers his cliches: read more
Much of the talk in the aftermath of the epic win over Southern Cal with regard to Karl Dorrell has been on the subject of Karl Dorrell growing into his job. It's a new twist in the debate on his performance. Only now, after his first big win, are reporters willing to state on the record their doubts about his abilities prior to the game. J.A. Adande is a prime example, stating earlier this week that he thought after the Notre Dame fiasco that Karl Dorrell "didn't have the makeup of a champion." Then he says, "but maybe we have to wait a bit longer for the picture to develop." That is the crux of the new argument from the Dorrell supporters. The "yeah we thought he wasn't any good but now that he won this game we need to give him time" argument. Well, no, read more
Much of the national media has long been talking about a Southern Cal-Ohio State matchup as we all know. If that hasn’t made your blood curl as a Bruin fan, then these items might. The Yahoo Sports game preview for our matchup this Saturday puts in plain language what just about everyone, except us loyal Bruin fans, expects from UCLA football.
UCLA (6-5, 4-4) already knows where it’s headed for the postseason, set to face Florida State at the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco on Dec. 27.
Even though this has not been the best of seasons for the Bruins, they probably would call it a very good one if they can somehow shock the Trojans.
So a 7-5 season for our football team is a “very good” season?! Just who the heck wrote this garbage? There is no read more
Editor's note: We are bumping Scott's post from the comment section because it deserves attention. We ask Scott and all loyal but frustrated Bruin fans to give Dan Guerrero until the end of the season to act before you lose faith in his ability to change the football program for the better. I have been a Bruin fan for most of my life. I have been disgusted for going on 2 decades now. This program has shown a commitment to mediocrity when it comes to football. Simply making a bowl game just does not cut it in the BCS world. If your conference raises the bar by helping to create a monster such as the BCS, you are forced by the nature of your environment to raise the bar as well. UCLA football has not done this. I remember when Terry Donahue was our coach, and the talk every year was about read more
The success of the basketball program under coach Ben Howland shows us how to run a high-profile athletic program at UCLA. Howland recieves $1.15 million in salary. We all know what he has done in the same time Karl Dorrell has run our football program into irrelevance. The recognition we, UCLA, are getting for the money we are spending on Howland is worth it. In the last two weeks our basketball program has been on the front page of ESPN.com, for example, and the season is only beginning. That kind of coverage is priceless as it brings prestige and downstream revenues to the program and the university. The run to the title game was even more priceless. Today, we hear nothing about our football program except in passing as a doormat on Southern Cal's schedule. Dan Guerrero's words say it all: read more
How could we miss this? Dorrell won a coaching award at the end of last month. The Sporting News (Tom Deinhart) has crowned KD the coach “Desperately Seeking A Clue” after the home loss to Washington State. True that. Congratulations to coach KD.
From the obvious department: KD is not being considered for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award. He is not on the list. That means no $50,000 bonus. Tedford is on the list, and anyone who watched our game against Cal knows that our offense, with KD taking 25% of the playcalling over from Svoboda (have you noticed he has disappeared?), ‘dominated’ Cal’s #92 ranked defense. With all the “growing” and “learning” this “young and inexperienced” team did this year under KD, many supporters will be suprised that KD is not on that list.
While some Dorrell apologists say wanting KD fired is bad form … check out one of the Washington Husky fan sites and the invective hurled at Ty Willingham, UDub 2nd year head coach, after a loss to winless Stanford at home and a second awful losing season in the Ty era. There is one post in that epic thread that is instructive for us in our efforts to get our football program back from the grip of mediocrity. It comes from a Notre Dame fan, and in his post he describes the miserable years of mediocrity they went through with Ty Willingham, and what they had to do and endure to get rid of him. Their situation sounds in many ways similar to ours with Karl Dorrell (although we don't think KD is a slacker). What worked for Notre Dame? A Petition!! Read the post in its entirety, its pretty illuminating. Here it is: read more
