The initial reports of the big recruiting weekend, when 18 or 19 of our commits made their official visits, contain the usual story lines. Some recruits are saying they will stay committed if Walker stays, and some recruits are saying they are committed to UCLA, not the coach. There is more Walker hyping too. We won't get too much into the recruit story here because that talk has been around for some time.
What we want to highlight are the quotes from current players, Chris Foster LAT reporting: read more
Wow. LAT is reporting that Chancellor Block could get the list of final candidates to review and make a decision next week. This is a bit of a shocker, especially considering we have only a few names that we know have been interviewed (Walker, Chow, Neuheisel and Harbaugh): read more
We really don't want to write this post, we really don't want to focus on TJ Simers … really, who cares?! But Karl Dorrell is history, and Simer's is still raging about it. And the focus of his rage is DumpDorrell.com. We promised we'd respond fully, so here it is. read more
TJ Simers must be losing relevance. For the third time in 2 weeks he has resorted to attacking DumpDorrell.com and our mission. WTF?? Is he looking to start a fight with a blog?? Weak. More importantly, he still doesn't get it. This site is not about Dorrell and never has been. This site is about excellence in UCLA football. That is is why we aren't talking about Dorrell anymore. We are focusing on what UCLA football needs now … and Dorrell is irrelevant. We will have more to say on this later as an addendum to this post.
We read TJ Simer's latest attempt to Save Dorrell late last night when it was first published online. It appeared in today's paper and we have received a lot of comments and emails regarding the piece. Simers obviously is butt hurt by our comments here at DD, and comments by so many on the Bruin internet, regarding his lame flip-flopping attempts to save Karl Dorrell that he can't just let it go. Truly, we have said enough about Simers and unlike Simers we felt that the story has moved on … and it has. But since many of you are asking about it, we will address TJ's comments about DumpDorrell.com: read more
It's getting interesting, but our wait got a little longer. Chris Foster of the LAT is reporting that the Monday presser is not scheduled. No word on whether it ever was scheduled, even though the Daily News said it was. So we will NOT hear about Dorrell's fate tomorrow … apparently. Not a problem folks, because Dorrell's days are obviously numbered, Foster:
The search for a new UCLA football coach has begun, even as current Coach Karl Dorrell awaits his fate. Dorrell will be fired this week and a short list of candidates has been assembled, sources familiar with the athletic department said today.
No doubt in our minds that this will go down! Obviously read more
If this circus that has been going around town trying to Save Dorrell hasn't entertained or wowed you enough then TJ Simers has something for you. Today, as part of his flip-flopping campaign to Save Dorrell, Simers pulls out the final word, the Humanitarian himself, Pete Carroll. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig, Simers:
On (Dorrell's future), though, you would think Carroll would be considered an expert.
"I think (Dorrell's) done a fantastic job," Carroll said. "I think read more
Editor's note: Happy Thanksgiving! Be safe.
Students are writing us and posting on the boards that the Daily Bruin ads are being well received by the student population. Here is one post, obviously biased:
I am currently a UCLA student and I can verify that the ad caused quite a stir on campus. Coach Doofus is less popular on campus than many of you people realize. Believe it or not, some of us actually care about having a well-coached team.
Rich Perelman also did a little reporting on the ads for his LAT What's Bruin blog (emphasis his): read more
The fire over LAT Kurt Streeter's race-baiting tabloid hit piece on UCLA and Bruin Nation continues to rage on. This time the flames come from Streeter himself. The internets are not happy with his column and Dorrell's comments and the pressure is showing on both Streeter and Karl Dorrell. Yesterday, Dorrell apologized to a DumpDorrell reader (and Daily Bruin ad contributor) for Dorrell's destructive quote in Streeter's LAT article, explaining it away as taken out of context. Yesterday evening, Kurt Streeter himself responded to another DD reader (and Daily Bruin ad contributor) in a less apologetic fashion. In fact, he got a little hot headed.
Read the email correspondence below for yourself. It's clear Kurt Streeter is hurt by the backlash and probably doesn't even really understand it. His response is thoughtless and uninformed at it's most basic. It's shocking, truly, the manner in which Dorrell's supporters such as Streeter are acting out now to save his job.

The fallout from Kurt Streeter's race-baiting tabloid column in the LAT on keeping Dorrell, "Keep Dorrell and keep me posted," has been widespread. Bruins all over the internet have eviscerated every claim made in Streeter's destructive piece. Most die-hard Dorrell supporters even called for Dorrell to distance himself from what Streeter wrote, including Dorrell's own ungrateful quotes. Bruin Nation has made it very clear that Dorrell cannot get away with playing the race card at UCLA. Dorrell's decision to spend an hour with Streeter Sunday posing with his middle finger at UCLA, deflecting focus from and not preparing "hard" for the Oregon game, has completely backfired.
Here is a sampling of the fallout: read more
