Now we are getting pissed off. We are hearing excuses coming from Wayne Cook and Joe Grande on AM 570, that you can’t fault Karl Dorrell for yesterday - that is was the players’ fault - and that 7-6 is a good season. WTF?! Cook beat USC so he will always have respect. But look at the record Dorrell has built over 4 years. Stop giving excuses. It’s always something with Dorrell’s team or assistants, and never with Dorrell himself with these guys. 6-6, 6-7, 7-6, and it’s not Dorrell.
We thought we’d point out 2 very obvious coaching mistakes for the boys at AM 570. Everyone is talking about the 4th and 1 FG call in the 2nd Qtr. The play before that play was the biggest mistake Karl Dorrell made and read more

Welcome back mediocrity … where have you been? So much to say it will take days. Let’s just start by saying the obvious, this game was completely disappointing. What a letdown. Dorrell had one chance to make everything right, one last shot. Everything gained from the victory over USC has vanished, as Dorrell himself said would happen. Sure, there is no substitute for the epic USC win. We will take that any day and all day. We have Karl Dorrell to thank from here to eternity for that. But the USC win should be his parting gift to us. He should be fired. We deserve better, the players deserve better.

The Emerald Bowl today is more than just a marketing/fundraising trip for a mediocre team. For UCLA, today is about setting the tone for the promise of next season. The motivation to win should be plain for everyone to see, and the reports of hard practices attest to the fact that the players know what is at stake. Even Karl Dorrell admitted that a loss today would quickly negate all the happy thoughts and happy talk that has filled the airwaves of UCLA Football since December 2.
For Florida State, the motivation for today’s game is read more
It’s raining today in San Francisco, site of the Emerald Bowl tomorrow between UCLA and Florida State. Rain is in the forecast overnight and tomorrow morning as well, according to weather.com. The field at AT&T Park where the game will be played is a blend of 5 low-growing bluegrass hybrid turf grasses, according to their website. We don’t know much about turf grass, but low-growing and rain may not be a good mix. After a day and a half of steady rains, and wind, it might make for a tough day on the field. It will still be windy tomorrow night for the game as well, windy and cold.
Which team would that affect more, UCLA or Florida State?? Let’s take a look. Both teams have speed read more
Vegas oddsmakers opened up the line on the Emerald Bowl with UCLA -5. The betting has narrowed the spread a little to -3.5 to -4.0 depending on the service. It seems that nearly every expert has UCLA winning this game on the strength of the win against USC. Florida State could have won against Florida in its last game were it not for a toe out of bounds on a return but only College Football News has FSU beating us. We haven’t seen much good insight from CFN to believe their analysis, after all they have crowned Dorrell Coach of the Year in the Pac-10 when their own pre-season analysis would say he had an ok year. CFN says FSU will move the ball against our much improved defense. We shall see. So far, the money is following the buzz of UCLA and DeWayne Walker’s defense.

In other news, Playboy has come out with its first ever ranking of the top 10 colleges with the best looking women. UCLA women are ranked #3 nationally. Congratulations and Thank You to our women. The ranking is based on a poll of Playboy photographers and photo editors, who for decades have photographed the best looking women in college around the US. top 10 list voted on by visitors to Playboy's site will be issued in February. Yeah, we don't get Playboy either but it's a well deserved nod to our women and so we'll take it. Since Florida State is ranked #6 we will take that as a sign, and make our prediction right now that we will beat FSU in the Emerald Bowl by the 3 points difference in rankings. Thanks to ChantRant for the heads up.

Vegas is picking up!! Strange that the Vegas Bowl invited BYU … what Mormons are going to come to Sin City and gamble?? Not many is the answer. We have seen many Oregon Duck fans but few Cougar fans. We have answers to our questions to Florida State blogger ChantRant in part 2 of our Q&A. Great info from inside Seminole Nation. Big thanks to the folks at ChantRant!
1. Under Bowden, FSU has had one of the greatest runs in college football history, as you all well know. The obvious first question for us at UCLA and DumpDorrell (that we will try to mask) is, now that boosters have gotten rid of his son, does Bobby have any scapegoats if next year is disappointing?
No scapegoats. Especially read more
Florida State Blogger ChantRant invited us to do a Q&A with them for the Emerald Bowl. Here are our answers to their questions. We will have their answers to our questions soon.
1. We hear the Bruins are practicing hard. Why is Dorrell taking this game so seriously?
Dorrell and the team are practicing hard. The reason is read more
We are a week away and so now we begin looking at the matchup for the glorious Emerald Bowl. It’s great for schools to play in bowls - they can earn some revenues for the program and get some positive publicity. It also allows schools to give the alumni in other parts of the country a reason to reignite their relationship to the school, warming them up for gifting down the line. 32 bowl games this year in Div 1A … compared to 18 bowl games in the ’80s. Have bowl games become watered down?? Not according to the marketing … excuse us … athletic departments of Florida State and UCLA (sarcasm off).
Florida State is a national powerhouse led by a legend of a coach in Bobby Bowden, the winningest coach in college football, or something like that. UCLA is a national powerhouse as well, regaining our national prestige with a stunning upset win over highly ranked Southern Cal. The reality is a little more read more
