I won't deny that I had my concerns about hiring Rick Neuheisel and he certainly wasn't my first choice. But, he was the best choice left and now that he's the UCLA coach, its time for all good UCLA fans to come to the aid of their coach and give him our full support.
And, one of the things we'll need to do is to continue to put pressure on the administration to read more
From the FWIW department: Terry Donahue just had a 15 minute interview on AM 570 and said that Rick Neuheisel "is the right coach for UCLA." That was a bit of a shocker. Given the past between the two we fully expected Donahue to support Walker for head coach. He did not, although it wasn't clear what his opinion of Walker was. Donahue did say that "there are other coaches that are right for UCLA too." He said that as if to say that the search process was not complete so RN was not the only coach he'd support.
We have long said that read more
It was expected. Washington has made an offer to DeWayne Walker to be their next defensive coordinator. The deal is a guaranteed 2-year deal, where most assistant coaches get year-to-year deals, per Dohn: read more
Editor's Note: BruinBlue at BruinsNation.com wrote this great piece below on the current coaching search. We thought we'd bring it to you in whole as it describes the situation Guerrero finds himself in, whether he created it or not.
We are all still hoping that Dan Guerrero ends this extensive coaching search with a winning hire . And that might well still happen. But I think it would be pollyannish to believe that the ultimate choice is going to be someone who is met with consensus approval, or whose name immediately gains us much-sought national respect for both the process and the hire. It is tempting to simply hope that the man who brought in Ben Howland will do it again; but it is equally easy to believe that this search has been mishandled and compromised to such an extent that however it ends up, there are going to be some very unhappy people, and some immediate problems to deal with.
As I said the other day, no one is certain as to read more
We will have notes for you later this afternoon. No decision is expected today on the head coaching search as Walker is expected to be interviewed a second time Wednesday. There are some more full page advertisements out there for Walker today (Doh!n), and another hit job on UCLA football, this time by hack Bob Keisser, and TJ Simers tries to bring down Dan Guerrero for the second time in a week (and he attacked us?!). The boards are awash in "moral victory" jubilation and Walker euphoria. Could this get any worse? You bet it can. Guerrero and Block could continue 40 years of embarrassing and agonizing Bruin tradition and hire on the cheap and no experience. ABW.
We will have a lot to say today, but we wanted to start the day off with a post from BruinGold on BruinsNation that neatly sums up the shock we all get when we read the utter euphoria on the UCLA internet after a loss to a MWC team: read more
We will come out of what would have been self imposed retirement from blogging if DeWayne Walker is hired. Seriously, if Walker is hired after this massive media blitz from our beat press then what we will do online and offline will make DumpDorrell look like a cat picture blog. This is sickening folks. The MSM is trying to force our program to make the same mistakes it has made the last 40 years. And the Dorrellistas are drinking the poison like this is Jonestown.
WTF?? DeWayne Walker?? They are calling him a star for losing to MWC BYU?? A team we should blow out every time we play them?? People, our work is not done. More tomorrow …
Update: This afternoon's Replacement Poll Round 3 results are now visible. Vote if you haven't already, we will shut it down tonight.
Just when we thought we were out from under Terry Donahue's influence, Rich Perelman of the LAT reveals that the search firm Dan Guerrero hired is run by a former assistant under Terry Donahue. So much for Guerrero's legacy hire if this hire has Donahue's fingerprints on him: read more
Editor's Note: If you haven't already voted for who you think should be our next head football coach, do so today, as we will be closing the round 2 voting later this evening. Next round, Wednesday or Thursday, we cut to the top 5 vote getters.
Much news to report, so we'll jump right to it. Many of you already know that Brian Dohn reported yesterday that Dan Guerrero is making candidates keep their traps shut during and after the interviewing process:
None of the football coaching candidates have made any public statement, not even to beat writers in the cities covering those teams. Why? UCLA AD Dan Guerrero is telling the guys not to talk to the media about the search, who is interviewed, or how the interviews are going, according to sources.
Apparently DeWayne Walker didn't get the message. Meanwhile, read more
The culture of mediocrity that dominates our football program is deeply ingrained and institutionalized (Bob Fields, Don Morrison, Peter Blackman, Terry Donahue). If you look back at all our head coaching hires over the last almost 40 years (!) you can see it plain as day. Let's take a look: read more
