Scott Wolf is reporting on his Daily News blog that Mariucci has set his sights on the Arizona Cardinal job, now that Dorrell "has saved his job" with the win over SC. According to Wolf, the big win over SC might have the unintended and unfortunate consequence of Pete Carroll staying at SC rather than taking the Arizona job himself. We thought that as well. Or, in other words, had Dorell lost to SC we would have both a new coach AND gotten rid of Pete Carroll. Oh well, we'll see how this turns out.

Editors Note: Sign the petition, and get your DumpDorrell tshirts for the Southern Cal game. If Dan Guerrero does not get rid of Karl Dorrell this year he won't be able to until the end of the 2009 season at the earliest! So, get the word out!
The euphoria of getting to .500 last week against OSU has created even more hyperbole in Westwood this week, if that is possible for a 6-5 team that just beat a mediocre ASU. Our players and coaches are calling the win over hapless Arizona State, "Huge!" They are talking about how at UCLA "the expectations are you go to a bowl game." Here we thought it was championships and the Rose Bowl, not the Pineapple Bowl, or whatever it's called. That is what Dan Guerrero thought too when he hired Karl Dorrell … he said something about read more
If you want to prove you are 'getting better' beat a good team, BEAT SOUTHERN CAL!! It's sad when coaches think they can prove they are getting better after a 4 game losing streak with wins against average, inconsistent and injured teams and with a lousy 6-6 season. We play the same way against Southern Cal as we did the last two games and we will get blown away, again. Moreover, it is Lavinesque to get a couple of meaningless wins in the middle of overall futility and be happy about it. The difference with KD is the happy talk doesn't raise false hopes. Great coaches and great teams don't gloat like this. Who really thinks Karl Dorrell is a great coach?? Who really thinks Karl Dorrell can take us to the next level??
UCLA won and the team deserves credit, especially given the loss of Cassel. But hearing gloating and that happy talk again is never a good sign. We win a game with three plays, and Karl Dorrell beat out Dirk Koetter for Mediocre Coach of the Year honors, that is about what we have. While KD gets no bonus for such coaching honors in his contract, and DK soon gets shown the door, KD now gets another week, or two, of media praise for a '2-0' season and for making the team 'better.' That is what we expected, a team and beat press estatic about a 6-6 season and a middle of the Pac-10 finish. Not exactly what Dan Guerrero had in mind when he hired Karl Dorrell. 6-6! Today two head coaches on the hot seat meet for what will be a horrible day for one coach. The loser will more than likely lose out on the Hawaii Bowl 'save your season' sweepstakes that goes to the 6th place team in the Pac-10. And with that ignominious letdown, the loser will more than likely hear the voices of doom calling for their ouster louder than they ever have. Did they have to schedule this game at night?! No worries people. UCLA will win today against an average, inconsistent, injured, and poorly coached ASU team and Karl Dorrell will be glorified again. And who knows, maybe he will even get another contract extension. On the flip side, read more
This week's Stat Of The Week is road victories. 0. Zero. None against teams with a winning record in Karl Dorrell's entire head coaching career. We also have not won on the road this season. But KD will get his first road victory this season Saturday. And here is the prize: ASU is a ripe 6-4! ASU is an average but inconsistent team just like Oregon State, and they are due for a bad game, just like Oregon State. They have an O line decimated by key injuries to senior lineman, opening up the game to our sackmasters Hickman and Davis who should have a great game, and ASU has an average defense. They have been sputtering with a young QB and a coach who has them playing well one week and badly the next. Sound familiar?
This week, however, ASU coach Dirk Koetter said he is ready for the blitz, and is planning a dink game around it. But before everyone gets excited read more
Looks like the oddsmakers are giving ASU the home field advantage in this game. Depending on the service, the odds are ASU by 4.0 to 5.5. Big spread in the analysis of the outcome, but the verdict is the same. UCLA has beaten the spread at least twice this season, and this ASU team is more inconsistent and weak than OSU. Like the Beavers, the Sun Devils are up and down and they are due for a down day. Not a lot of points are expected, even though the last time these two teams met in Tempe it was a shootout, with UCLA losing 48-42.
We didn't want to do this, to write this post. It's shameless and we fully admit it. But with football in the sh!thouse, and basketball brightening up our day, we figured what the heck … we can all loosen up and take a joke right?! The rest is after the jump … read more
It's a bit early to be talking Arizona State but this week's game is sure to draw some heat. That is from fans of both teams over the performance of their head coach. ASU fans have wanted to fire coach Dirk Koetter for a couple of years now. And of course you know of UCLA fans dissatisfaction with coach Karl Dorrell. Both are coming off pressure relieving wins but one is going to come away with a loss and the lead in "the coach most likely to be fired" race. Next up, The Monster.com Bowl.
Regardless of who wins, both coaches must climb the wall of insanity that is closing in on them and their programs (that's a bit of humor folks). They share similar records and, strangely, initials (DK & KD). Koetter has compiled a 61% winning pct. at ASU (62-40) while Dorrell is at 57% (27-20). Koetter has a 20-26 record against the Pac-10 and Dorrell has a 17-14 record. Koetter and Dorrell share horrible records against ranked teams, Koetter at 2-20 and Dorrell at 3-11. While Koetter does well on the road, 26-10, he does horribly at home 36-30. Dorrell has done well at home, 19-5, but horribly on the road, 8-15. Of course they also share the ire of read more
