SMU Offered HC Job To Rick Neuheisel, Now Offer To June Jones
According to the Dallas Morning News, SMU has offered June Jones their head coaching job. June Jones will be meeting with SMU officials tomorrow. His current contract at Hawaii ends in June and pays him $800,000 reportedly. Jones is going a long way to get Hawaii to up their bid for him, if that's what this is. SMU is said to have $10 million for their coaching staff. That sounds like a pot of gold worth flying all the way to Texas for. DMN:
Hawaii coach June Jones will travel to Dallas on Saturday and engage in discussions with SMU officials this weekend, according to a source with knowledge of the school's search for a new football coach. SMU has offered Jones the job at between $1.7 million and $2 million a year, according to two sources.
Meanwhile, Sporting News is reporting that sources told Tom Deinhart that SMU made an offer to Rick Neuheisel. Now, we reported that SMU was interested in Neu early in the search. No one reported that he actually interviewed for the position let alone received an offer from SMU, until now. Deinhart has been pretty good in reporting stories involving UCLA football, but he was also the guy who was first with the news that Washington had hired Walker away. So, take this for what its worth:
This is at least the third time SMU officials have made a formal offer to a prospective coach, sources told Sporting News' Tom Dienhart. The position previously had been offered to Paul Johnson, who instead accepted the head coach's job at Georgia Tech, and Rick Neuheisel, who ended up taking the UCLA job. A source added that Gerald J. Ford, for whom the SMU football stadium is named, wanted Neuheisel.
Final DumpDorrell post this Sunday. Go Bruins!

Thanks for giving us the news and the ability to have input with the administration. i got on board late, but really enjoyed the site. i’ll miss it.
Fred @ 11:17 am:
June Jones is the highest paid (state) employee in the state of Hawaii, so I wonder how high they can go in upping his salary?
Reportedly, Jones hasn’t left the island for a recruiting trip in 3 years due to their measly $50,000 per year recruiting budget. Being stateside with a bigger budget would allow him to recruit better athletes. I don’t see how he can pass up the opportunity at SMU unless his current lifestyle is of more importance to him.

This site is too good to just close down. Why not continue it with a different name “Neu Bruin Times” for example. Thanks for a great source through a frustrating time.
Howard
JRBruin @ 1:34 pm:
Agree Howard, this site is great! Guess I’ll end up at bruinsnation if this site stops being active.
On another note, Crissman threw a sweet touchdown pass during the HS Allstar game. Very impressed! They mentioned that Neuheisel should be able to work some magic with him. Go Bruins!
UCLA 03 @ 1:54 pm:
Thanks DD for all the information through this entire process. I agree this site should continue in some fashion. I believe that this site has helped renew interest amongst Bruin fans, alumni, and supporters throughout the country and abroad (as I am currently living abroad). Not only did DD help in increasing public interest in UCLA football again, it also showed how a passionate group of people (with only a website as a tool) can restore faith in a football program that has been in the shadows for too long. The heightened spirit and comaraderie that DD helped facilitate is more impressive to me than the hiring of Coach Neu. If this coaching search has taught us Bruin fans anything, it is that the love we have for UCLA is greater than any one man, player, or even team. DD helped show me that every day when I would read a new posting from a fellow fan. I am very proud to be an alumnus of UCLA and even more proud because I know that I am not the only one who cares so much about our University. I hope the torch that DD has helped light will continue in some capacity, because I know we will need this passion to continue if we want to reach our ultimate goal of taking back LA, and being a perennial national championship contender. Damn proud to be a Bruin!!!

Go Bruins! Thanks DD for all the information during our recent coaching search and a place to “vent” for all Bruin fans.
I am looking forward to some exciting seasons ahead for all Bruin football fans.
Cheers,
Ted H.

Thanks DD for all of the effort you put forth to make a new era of UCLA football a reality. A return to the top of the Pac 10 is not going to happen overnight. But, RN is no doubt going to breathe life into our stagnant football program. There is no reason to think that in 2-3 years, the outcome of the SC/UCLA game will once again have national implications for BOTH teams. Props to Dan Guerrero for correcting the mistake of hiring Dorrell on his watch (whether or not it was his final decision).
Gary @ 4:29 pm:
DD…..you were nothing but Downright Delightful…..i wish you could continue so that we all could keep talking amongst ourselves…we are true Bruin fans and I wish everyone well….see you in the BCS….peace out
Radington @ 4:50 pm:
Thanks guys… I will miss all the banter fo sho. It is great to have a forum and DD.Com will be sorely missed. But it was a roaring success, it brought us all together in common cause. To victory! To beating Pete’s ass! Radington.
BruinBuddy @ 6:43 pm:
Rick would be well advised to add DD to his staff in some role. How about as the “Truth In Sport Coordinator”?
Art Bruin @ 7:25 pm:
Just a final thought! Maurice Jones-Drew (UCLA) or Reggie Bush (USC)? I will take Maurice Jones-Drew! Runs a kickoff back to the 1 yard line and takes a swing pass 43 yards for Jacksonville touchdown in the playoffs. He is awesome player has heart and not afraid to run between the tackles and will have a much bigger impact than SUC runningback. Go Bruins! Things are lookin’ up!

I agree that you guys have done a great job renewing interest among fans….Karl was a great guy, and I appreciate his help as I appreciate Mr. Toledo’s. I will say however…..I now will use those 40 yard seats I own, on the Sunny side of course. Perhaps you could start a Dump the Loud Alumni Cheerleader site?????? That would help, not yet, not yet, not yet, BUT NOW.
Go Bruins and we made the right hire.
BruinOC @ 8:11 am:
And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, Ill say it clear,
Ill state my case, of which Im certain.
Ive lived a life thats full.
Ive traveled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Ive loved, Ive laughed and cried.
Ive had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.
Thanks Dump Dorrell for all the work over the last year (and more). This site was the great sounding board for many of us. I was once accused of being a ‘Dorrelista’ by this website (and was threatend to be removed if I continued) in the beginning of this season. I can only look back and laugh…(I still feel Duh-Rel was inappropriate).
But through it all, we “ALL” achieved the goal…Neuheisel was a ‘great choice’…
Good Luck to the Coach, the Program and to the University - and here’s wishing for a BCS Bowl by 2010 (2 years).
Thank you and so long everybody!!!!
Thanks again to all of you who kept this website running for all of us….it was truly appreciated…
Go Bruins!!!!
Ed @ 10:46 am:
Thanks DD you helped change the course of our program. On another note, did anybody watch Russell Westbrook’s dunk during the CAL game? The little guy looked like a monster. If you guys/gals haven’t watched it you have to watch it on youtube.
