Rick Neuheisel Interviews Michigan QB Coach Scot Loeffler
The Detroit News reported this morning that Michigan QB coach Scot Loeffler interviewed with coach Rick Neuheisel last night. This news came in a report on prized 5-star freshman QB Ryan Mallet on whether or not he will transfer out of Michigan:
To what school he would transfer could depend on the future of former Michigan quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler. Loeffler interviewed last week with Tennessee for the offensive coordinator's position, and he was expected to speak to new UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel coach Thursday night, sources indicated.
Regarding Mallet, one source quoted by the Detroit News had this to say:
"I would be dumbfounded" if Mallett didn't transfer, one source said Thursday night.
We should know soon.

by the way….Dorrell’s 5 star recruit was it olsen? if not who?
bones @ 1:55 pm:
Sorry to say it but I think Olsen is done. He is slow and prone to injury. His not playing in the bowl game showed me he needs to pick another sport. We must develop other QBs and get them ready to go.
alx324 @ 3:05 pm:
Kds five star recruit is Brian Price dt Ben Olson is the other
EZ @ 3:09 pm:
I just received a phone call from Rick Neuheisel. It brought tears to my eyes. Now when they are back to winning again, all the bandwagoners will jump ship from SC and start attending UCLA games at the Rose Bowl. Either way, I’ll still be there.
mikey @ 3:55 pm:
Yeah I got a meesage from Rick also. What a class act! KD could learn a lesson from that move alone.
EZ @ 4:07 pm:
Actually, KD did have a similar message placed when he was hired and in subsequent years. I wouldn’t call it a “class act” move. I would call it a way to get people excited so they can buy tickets to games. It is simply a well timed marketing move with all the excitement around UCLA football.
Trevor @ 4:55 pm:
I was very excited to get the message from Rick too. I really like the things he said and I hope he can turn are fooball program around and I’m excited for next season too. Go Bruins!
David @ 4:59 pm:
It’s a PR move and a very good one. But let’s give Guerrero a little credit. It could very well have been his idea to do the RN phone blitz. And in the spirit of the promising future for UCLA football, I’d like to see the Dump Dorrell banner come down. KD is a decent guy who is out of the picture. He deserves to be allowed to move on with his life without all this lingering acrimony.
Gary @ 5:00 pm:
I just got a message from RN….I AM YOUR NEW OC AT UCLA!!!
First move…send Ben Olsen on another mission…..
Second ….. give Kahill Bell legs that won’t get hurt.
Bring on the condoms.
3xBruin @ 5:01 pm:
I was very excisted Neuheisel’s voice as well. It gets everyone pumped up.
Daniel Wayne @ 5:10 pm:
I would love to see this web site continue with a different name, like UCLA football news.
EZ @ 5:25 pm:
Gary - Welcome aboard. As our new OC, please remember Rick’s suggestion to Illinois when they were down in the Rose Bowl to sc. Throw the ball on 1st down a few times.
JRBruin @ 6:13 pm:
EZ, I thought that was awesome that as soon as the Illini started throwing on 1st down they were able to move the ball. Made Rick look like a genius.
Sean @ 6:13 pm:
Class act? He’s just on orders from the athletic department, trying to sell tickets. That said, I too got the call and loved it!
BruinBuddy @ 6:53 pm:
Loeffler is a good QB coach and I am glad he is interested in the job. I would like to see Chow ofcourse like everyone else would be the OC, but we won’t know until nextweek after the Titans lose. But if it is Loefler who becomes the QB coach, I sure hope he brings that little swing pass they use to the half-back off play action that worked so well during the season. That is a sweet litle play that gains some nice yardage on first downs.
mark @ 8:11 pm:
SMU should hire Dorrell, which would free up money for UCLA to get Chow. Go Bruins!!
BLUE BOB @ 9:55 pm:
Isn’t it great! Hillary gets punked and also maybe just maybe we won’t have to have a Dump Web site now for a long long time.
Go BRUINS!
Gary @ 11:39 pm:
Throw on every down I say!!!

This has been a useful, fun, vehicle to enable Bruin alumni to communicate, vent and share bright…and not so bright…thoughts.
Consider this, as we move forward, excited and eager for the Coach Neu era: Coaches have always parlayed close relationships with 5-star recruits to coaching positions on Div I staffs (Al Davis got a running backs position on Figueroa Tech’s staff by bringing Angelo Coia…a speedster who was a bust…but, landing in L.A., from PA enabled Al, with his persuasive toungue to get into the newly forming AFL Oakland Raiders. Here, you speak of Scot Loeffler joining Neu’s staff and bringing 5-star QB Ryan Mallet.
For your information, 5-star UCLA DT Brian Price is the direct result of Eric Scott’s besting happy Pete himself, head to head…Eric’s contribution earned him a place on the UCLA staff. And, Eric is a Bruin football team alumnus.
I suggest we reduce the invective within our Bruin family, thank those who’ve contributed as best they could to the well-being and growth of our athletic program and not get stuck in antipathy.
Welcome home, RN, good luck KD! Go BRUINS!!
Russ @ 1:08 pm:
C. Williams — I AGREE!!! Let’s start being positive and not continue to dwell on the past. We HAVE OUR Coach, now let’s support him the staff he selects. Go BRUINS!
