FWIW, Terry Donahue: Rick Neuheisel Right Coach For UCLA

From the FWIW department:  Terry Donahue just had a 15 minute interview on AM 570 and said that Rick Neuheisel "is the right coach for UCLA."  That was a bit of a shocker. Given the past between the two we fully expected Donahue to support Walker for head coach.  He did not, although it wasn't clear what his opinion of Walker was.  Donahue did say that "there are other coaches that are right for UCLA too." He said that as if to say that the search process was not complete so RN was not the only coach he'd support.

We have long said that we want Terry Donahue to stop talking about UCLA football especially during momentous times like these so as not to inject himself in any way into a process that will determine the future of the program.  He couldn't shut up when we wanted Dorrell gone, consistently undermining Dan Guerrero by going to the media saying Dorrell should keep his job.  Donahue continued to support Dorrell even tonight saying he deserved more time!  Now Donahue can't STFU about the selection process.  He needs to recognize that he is selfishly drawing attention to himself and putting undo pressure on Guerrero, and taking some of Guerrero's authority away by constantly going to the media during the search.

In his defense, TD did say that Dan Guerrero was doing everything methodically and that he approved of the way Guerrero was handling the search.  TD noted that if Guerrero does end up selecting Neuheisel, Walker or Harbaugh that he should have, and would have, done so already.  He thinks DG is still interviewing other candidates.  Also in TD's defense, he did say that everything he was saying was his opinion and "pure speculation."   But that is not enough to remove the stain of his opinion from the media dialogue.  Although apparently TD agrees that Rick Neuheisel is the right coach over DeWayne Walker, we would rather have Terry Donahue disappear.

Dana @ 7:52 pm:

Isn’t it ironic that one of the reasons Walker gets hated on so much is cause some of the people, like Dohn, pushing for him are the same ones that were pushing to keep Dorrell. And, yet, 5 years later, some of the the people that pushed for Dorrell to get the HC job are now the same ones pusing for Neuheisel.

Ray @ 8:01 pm:

In addition, Donahue said that he’d be “surprised” if the new HC wasn’t announced in the next 48 to 72 hours.

About to Puke @ 8:07 pm:

I guess my on-site name is a bit vulgar for some. Truth is, I didn’t intend to post on this site as long as I have or I wouldn’t have used it. In the future, I’ll log myself on as ATP. Thanks.

DumpDorrell @ 8:11 pm:

Dana … actually, this is the first time we have heard any crossover from the Dorrell group to the Neuheisel group in the media. Most who were strongly pushing for Dorrell to get dumped are now strongly advocating for Neuheisel. And most who wanted Dorrell to stay are strongly advocating for Walker to take his place. That is our observation.

dumpdorrell -

I thought you were a Neuheisel supporter. If so, why do you say “we would rather have Terry Donahue disappear.”
He is supporting Rick Neuseisel campaign. And he has a lot more power and influence than us message poster on the internet board. We shoud be hoping that he does more of those Rick Neuheisel promotion interview all over the media outlet instead of “disappearing.”

DumpDorrell @ 8:22 pm:

Bruin Genius .. did you read Donahue’s quote in our earlier post today?? No, we don’t want him around trying to influence the program at all, even if he happens to agree with us on one thing.

about to puke . . your name is fine __ I enjoy it

Amen, DD.
Donahue’s quote in your post from earlier today was absolutely nauseating, yet so in keeping with his fatalistic, underachieving mindset.

And sure enough, during his radio interview last night he expressed, as future goals for UCLA football, the same limited goals he espoused in all his years there. Please Terry, just STFU!

“He couldn’t shut up when we wanted Dorrell gone, consistently undermining Dan Guerrero by going to the media saying Dorrell should keep his job. Donahue continued to support Dorrell even tonight saying he deserved more time! Now Donahue can’t STFU about the selection process. “

DD:

..with you on this one. The guy is [almost] worse than Jimmy Carter. Instead of pounding nails into huts, Donahue should just go pound sand.

Javier @ 10:26 am:

I was surprise to hear TD supported RN as the next UCLA head coach.

IM_Ref_Ace @ 3:15 pm:

Well, we are stuck with Ricky now…can I start www.dumpneuheisel.com now?

UCLA76 @ 5:20 pm:

Based on what, IM?

I think it’s a good hire, though considering how many seniors we’re graduating and how shallow we are at the offensive skill positions it would be unwise to expect an immediate resurrection.
