Bellotti Turns Down UCLA
Our first impressions of the Bellotti deal turned out to be correct. Two sources are reporting that Bellotti met with Oregon's AD this morning and told him he is staying put. So, we are taking down the Poll we just put up.

Damn Idiot! I’m busting out my Nintento when I get home and playing “Duck Hunt”!
Tom @ 2:29 pm:
Eh, I can’t bad mouth Bellotti. I respect him and his decision. Just pissed @ the whole situation that’as all. It wouldv’e made the rivalry more intense since Bellotti owns Carroll. Oh well, I ‘m still going to go home and bust out Duck Hunt.
John W. Reagan @ 2:50 pm:
I hate to say I told you so, but… So, can we hire Rick today, or are we going to interview some CFL assistant coaches, or perhaps some womens soccer coaches? Clearly, DG doesn’t want to do the right thing and hire Neuheisel, maybe we should find a new AD?
Dorrell Hates Me @ 2:58 pm:
I guess this means that Nick Aliotti won’t be coming back.
With a Bellotti vs Rick match-up… I hated to do it, but I picked Rick. Rick has more upside. Bellotti is good, but can Rick be better???
JRBruin @ 3:00 pm:
Well, hopefully we’ll find out. With Bellotti out of the picture, unless DG has anymore aces up his sleeve it’s got to be Rick.
Bluebruin (AKA Diego) @ 3:23 pm:
This is the down side to being a media market.
Let me tell you all a story. On my way to being an attorney, I was working in a Law firm with access to Westlaw and Lexis Nexus. I decided one day to use Westlaw to find the phone number to then Boston Celtic head coach, Rick Pitino. I outlined an argument for Pitino on how he needed to come to UCLA, because the NBA was not receptive to his style of coaching. I called him everyday for about one month; each time I called, I left him a message making the same argument.
I quit the practice after that entire month, but picked it up again a month later. I contacted both Peter Dalis and Rick Pitino. It reached a point where Dalis BLOCKED my email address. I continued to tract my messages and they stopped being open. I switched to letters and registered mail, for Dalis.
I quit the practice yet again, but this time for good.
About 7 months after my initional contact with Rick and Dalis, the story broke that Rick Pitino had been contacted by UCLA about the bball job. The whole thing was WRECKED and Peter Dalis fooked it all up. The Media got to the story after a leak created by Dalis’s carelessness. Pitino, despite being highly interested, looked like an opportunist trying to take Lavin’s job (how ironic was that), and quickly he ended relations with UCLA. Ultimately Rick wound up at Louisville.
I WAS LIVID! I actually went back to school and called for an appointment to meet personally with Peter Dalis. He never granted me an appointment. I sent him faxes, emails from other accounts, and countless letters telling him he was a BAFFFFFOOOOONNNN for fooken up that hire.
THis is part of the reason why DG has been so secretive about things. There are coaches that simply can’t have media finding out what they’re doing, or the process will breakdown instantly!
that’s what has apparently happened here. I’m sure that the problem was that Oregon end. The Oregon AD, I’m sure, spilled the details on the story, our local media RAN with it, and that embarrassed Bellotti.
FUCK!!!
that’s fine. There was no harm in goign for it. It’s no secret UCLA likes Bellotti a great deal. They were checking to see if he’d take the job, before they give it to Rick.
BRING ON RICK! I’m ready! Let’s just wrap this up!
Timo @ 4:32 pm:
Besides experience and talent the most important thing is the desire to coach at UCLA. RN has wanted this job all his life. Remember “suck” chose PC after Bellotti, Riley and others turned them down. His daughter was on the volleyball team so he was hanging around campus begging for an interview. Rick is and alway has been the choice.
FUSC @ 4:48 pm:
RICK! RICK!RICK! RICK!RICK! RICK!RICK! RICK! No Beloti it is an easy choose
Bay Area Bruin @ 4:48 pm:
Bluebruin… I love your mix of insight and passion. Bellotti would have been nice, but I too am ready for Neuheisel. Win lose or draw, Neuheisel will make things exciting. Our program will either rise to the top, or fall hard. Neuheisel’s passion and attitude will be a nice change from Dorrell.
Brewnz @ 5:33 pm:
Diego, no harm no foul. If someone really wants a job and an employer is receptive, all things aside, that someone will fight for it. Bellotti didn’t want it enough to fight through it. What a whore. This is just more fodder for Rick to exact some whip ass for someone degrading his dream job. There is no love lost between them anyways. (Could this be a ploy from our venerable AD.) Rick is not a fall back choice, in my eyes he is the choice. But boy, when Rick’s team, our team, lines up against Oregon next time, our Bruins are going to be the last men standing! And those prophylactics down the street had better watch out too!

Lifelong Bruin fan @ 12:00 am:
Diego–that was a pretty intense story. As someone who took the decline of the bball program under Lavin pretty hard, thanks for trying to get Pitino here. But I must say I’m surprised they didn’t put a restraining order on you.
Well now that Bellotti is out of the picture, after we hire Neuheisel it will set up an explosive dynamic between UCLA and Oregon. Bring it on!
About to Puke @ 12:58 am:
Take a deep breath. Neuheisel will be named head coach on Sunday or Monday and then we can all sit back and watch what developes. I think we will lose some guys off that highly rated recruiting class, but I also think we will see other guys rescind their verbals to other schools and come to UCLA.
The sooner Neuheisel gets to work, the sooner we will see dramatic changes for the better take place.
Remember, you guys accomplished the first goal….Karl Dorrell is gone. I wish him good fortune, I think he did the best he was capable of. But, on Monday we will have a football coach who feels as passionately as we do about bringing success to the program.
To those of you who cannot agree with the hiring of Neuheisel, I admire your passion and you have my respect for wanting to take a different path to end the years of mediocrity. However, I think Rick will eventually win you over.
WestCoaster @ 2:00 am:
Pleas hire Neuheisel!!! He was a great coach at UW, very personable and media savvy, I was in Seattle during his years there…he is exactly who UCLA needs!!! All of his recruiting classes were ranked in the top 10..though he inherited a good team, he was able to COACH them to a Rose Bowl championship!! This has gone on way too long…
BruinBuddy @ 7:26 am:
ATP,
I have to agree with everything you just said and thank you and many others for making this come true.
As far as the recruits go, they will have to eventually meet Rick and he will sell himself. We don’t have to worry about that part. But I think during his first season the high school kids watching in on the games will see some new and exciting things and that will translate into a much easier program to sell to those Five Star Players on Rivals.com.
