DeWayne Walker’s Press Campaign Hits The OC

DeWayne Walker's press junket has hit the OC Register.  In a tempting piece titled "Search list grows for UCLA," Robert Kuwada brings out the trojan horse.   He starts the piece by naming all of the big names Dan Guerrero is interested in and quickly dispenses with each of them for a number of reasons.  Bottom line, according to Kuwada, the search has to go wider.  He covered that in basically the first 3 paragraphs.  Kuwada spends the rest of the article talking about one guy, who apparently is the reason why the search list grew:

Meanwhile, DeWayne Walker took over the big chair on the second floor of the Morgan Center and looked comfortable in a difficult role. After Karl Dorrell declined an option to coach UCLA in the Dec. 22 Las Vegas Bowl, the Bruins' defensive coordinator took over as the Bruins' interim coach in what is a chance to audition for the job in front of Athletic Director Dan Guerrero.

Yep, DeWayne Walker.  All these articles and prominent mentions don't happen in a vacuum.  Agents and representatives call these reporters or make themselves easily available so that they can give them insider info and background.  Its a press junket.  And it is working.  Walker is getting far more attention than anyone else … and he is by far the least qualified.  Walker has better people than Dorrell did because Walker has less experience than Dorrell and is getting more hype.  Don't you all remember thinking Dorrell who??  Obviously that wont happen with Walker … not even for someone on the East Coast … or in the OC.

I believe you guys no whats best for the program, and if you all say no to Walker I am with it, that being said it is kind of standard everything this dude is saying, its always believed that an interim coach is auditioning. And if it is his campaigning can you blame him, I would too if I had never had a HC job before and thought it was my best chance. I think that the reason he is getting the most attention is that there is no clear cut outside canidate (who actually wants the job)yet, when there is I am sure it will change.

Yoooklan, all of what you write is true, but it is incumbent upon us to uncover this! I’ve been on two radio shows already shouting down this opinion, which is clearly growing.

DD is right: There is some sort of contrived effort to push DW to teh coaching position. DO NOT BELIEVE IT!!! I beg all of you to stifle this speak immediately. It’s nonsensical by nature. How can anyone who took exception with KD suddenly want to advance DW as the RIGHT canddiate? that’s ASININE! It just doesn’t make sense.
