Dorrell Will Not Coach Bowl Game

Real quick note.  As you all probably know by now, Karl Dorrell has decided not to coach the team for the Las Vegas Bowl game.  Here is his press release

I appreciate the opportunity to coach in the bowl game, but I have decided it is in the best interests of the program for me to decline that opportunity, said Dorrell. “The game should be about the players, especially the seniors. While I would love to take the field with these young men one last time, I felt that my situation would take the focus away from our players and their efforts and that’s the last thing I would want to do.

I wish the players great success against BYU and in their respective futures.

The right thing to do and say. Nicely done Karl.  Thank you.  DeWayne Walker will be named interim coach and will coach the defense and allow Training Jay Norvell to call the offense (oh boy what fun!).  Last game for Training Jay obviously.

Bob Keiser of the Press Telegram, already giving his vote of confidence for Rick Neuheisel. what do you think fellow Bruin fans?

Bluebruin (aka Diego) @ 1:21 am:

Well, Jeff, as it has been extensively discussed, he is the grass-roots choice among Bruin fans. It’s tough to dispute it. In fact, I want to support him, but I know his mistakes with not only other administrations, but this specific administration won’t make him a realistic choice. Even if the miracle happened that he was hired, Rick won’t tone down his act enough to please the administration, alumni and DG. He will cross everyone with his egomaniacal demeanor. In the end, it will turn into a distraction for the team and for the fans. I don’t want that here.

jeff @ 1:58 am:

I agree. we don’t need another distraction here at Ucla. you know who I think should get serious consideration that is not being talked about? Steve Spurrier! he has a proven track record and just imagine what he could do here at Ucla! Mariucci? no shure!? might just trying to get back to the NFL. Spurrier would be an awesome recruiter and imagine the Ol’ Ball Coach at Ucla?

Bluebruin (aka Diego) @ 3:36 am:

There is no doubt Spurrier would be a fantastic, but I believe his price tag is out of our range, and I truly don’t believe he would come here. If DG could bring him here, it would be the best, but he’s a Good Ol’ Boy Southerner. He’s not cut out for this kind of lifestyle, even though we have golfing all year long.
