Gameday SuC: Either Way, Today We Win!!!
Today is a great day to be a Bruin football fan! Even though this game is almost meaningless as a football game thanks to Karl Dorrell, we know that today we can't lose. If we win the game, we win the game … and we take something precious away from the hated for a second straight year. If we lose we finally get to start a new era in UCLA football, and hopefully one in which we finally make the commitment to excellence we have long lacked.
Dorrell can possibly be back next year .. that is the dark cloud that hangs over the game. But beating SuC today is not enough. Dorrell has to hope Arizona beats Arizona State in Pheonix later on today. If both plausible but unlikely events happen then Dorrell will have our team winning the Pac-10 title and going to the Rose Bowl, a situation we are reluctant to admit will save his job for at least one more year.
But that won't happen today folks. We predicted last year that we would beat an even more dominant SuC team at the Rose Bowl. And we did. Today, although we will still root on our Bruins, we predict a loss … and the end of the Dorrell era. Stay tuned, we will be here through the bowl game, if we have one, and through the selection process for a new head coach. We will get the heated debate started once Dan Guerrero makes his expected news conference. Today we win!!! Go Bruins!!!

Nice way to get your team mentally prepared Karl.
December 1st, 2007 at 3:10 pm
Wonderful start…2 turnovers, 1 timeout used, down 7-0, not even at the 10 minute mark.
December 1st, 2007 at 3:10 pm
DD,
Thanks for stating the reality of the situation for all here to see. Bruins win + Wildcats win = One more year for KD.
I’ve been called crazy for stating this, but it’s hard to fire a guy who makes the Rose(BCS) Bowl.
December 1st, 2007 at 3:45 pm

December 1st, 2007 at 3:47 pm

Fumble on special teams

Face mask on 3rd down stop
F-ing kidding me?
Fourteen to nothing.

December 1st, 2007 at 3:50 pm
1 Quarter
2 Wasted Time-outs
2 Fumbles
1 Decision - Fire Dorrell
December 1st, 2007 at 4:12 pm
Mistakes, mistakes and stupid play calling. The Dorrell era right there before halftime. Same crap, different year!
December 1st, 2007 at 4:20 pm
Sure would be nice to have those wasted timeouts back right now…
December 1st, 2007 at 4:24 pm
If I see the Bruins call one more middle screen or inside slant I am going to puke!
December 1st, 2007 at 5:22 pm
Nice play calling
December 1st, 2007 at 5:23 pm
nice play calling. game, end of kd
December 1st, 2007 at 5:32 pm
ITS FINALLY OVER. TIME TO CELEBRATE. FINAL GREAT DECISION OF THE MORON
December 1st, 2007 at 5:35 pm
That was the dummest coaching move ever. I’m still wondering what D was thinking. Dumb. Barring a miracle comeback, looks like the site will get its wish by virtue of this most stupid of decisions.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:41 pm
Wow…even the announcers knew that they shouldn’t have accpted that penalty. Please fire him right now!!!!!!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 5:41 pm
i saw the call. if there was any doubt in my mind there is no more. i am ready to assemble the search committee.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:44 pm
Are you kidding me. 4th and almost 3 year and Dumbbell takes the penalty!!!!!!!! Gives USC another shot and loses the game. YOU NEVER TAKE THE PENALTY THERE!!! THAT IS COACHING 101!
You can not blame that idiot call on:
1. Injuries
2. Race
3. Any other hollow excuse
Make the move Danny Boy!
December 1st, 2007 at 5:47 pm
Cowan is a bum. Get him the hell out of the game and why the hell did the coaching staff select him to start. He is and always will be a bum. Get him the hell out of the game. Freakin amazing………Dorrell should be fired just for allowing Cowan to stay in the game. These guys are soft…..and for christ sake stop recruiting these soft quarterbacks from Hart, Saugus, Westlake, Utah, or any other valley schools. I’m tired of it.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Well, guys, hope the objective is achieved. I’m switching over to a REAL x-town rivallry…The Civil War between the Oregon schools. Oregon just blocked Oregon State’s 32 yard field goal attempt, recovering the ball. They are now in OSU territory, with 45 seconds left, tied at 28. Welcome to UCLA basketball season!
December 1st, 2007 at 6:06 pm
are you kidding me. What a freaking loser, he punts on 4th down, down by 17 and 2 minutes left. Who cares if they score another TD, at least try to do something. Not that they have done anything all game but this represents the whole KD ERA…
December 1st, 2007 at 6:11 pm
It’s all over. Dorrell has a look of indifference, as usual. Dorrell needs to take some anger mismanagement classes. What a horrible call to accept the penalty and give those idiots another shot. I hope DG hires a real coach for next season. GO BRUINS!!
December 1st, 2007 at 6:15 pm
Dorrell has one year left folks, get used to it. Today’s game was no different from the rest of the season, and we can’t pin this all on KD. 2/3 the offensive coaching staff will be gone by February. DG has too much invested in KD, and I am not talking about dollars. Expect a big gun to land on the scene in Q1 of 2008 to bring KD the balance he needs with his OCS.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Hopefully we’ve suffered through the last display of total incompetence by the DOOFUS. They shouldn’t even let him on the bus - make him walk home. Good riddance to the DOOFUS.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Pretty evident today that Dorrell and the UCLA football program are no match for USC’s. We need a coach the caliber of Pete Carroll. We need someone who can recruit great players who can run, pass, catch and get physical. We need a head coach who can bring in quality assistant coaches. Sorry, but the Bruins resembled the gutty little Bruins of old. The defense did the best it could, but you can’t be on the field that long against USC and not run out of gas. It wouldn’t have mattered had Dorrell chosen not to take the penalty that gave SC a third down instead of 4th. Moot point.
Guerrerro has to pull the trigger. Sorry that an ex-Bruin has to be fired, but it’s a business.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:23 pm
I hear the fat lady is starting her Aria right now….
December 1st, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Did the ghost of KD go up north to Oregon and infest the Ducks coach?
Late in regulation, the Ducks line up for a 53 yard FG from the right hash, game tied at 28, no TOs for the Ducks.Kicker misses right, but a flag on OSU gives the Ducks a first down, 15 yards closer, but still on the right hash. Oregon runs a play to get to the middle of the field, still has 20 seconds left, 2nd down.
They rush their kicking team on the field, instead of downing the ball and buying 30 seconds to set up their FG. Even if they had been called for delay of game, they would only lose 5 yards, a net gain of 10 yards due to the OSU penalty. Instead, they go ahead and hurriedly kick on 2nd down, and the kick falls SHORT as regulation ends.
The Beavers then beat the Ducks by 7 in the 2nd overtime. For all the world, it looked like a play Dorrell and his staff would have called.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:40 pm
Thanks DG for giving KD an opportunity to coach at this level. It took you and UCLA administrators a lot of courage to make this happen and I’m very sure KD is truly appreciative of the opportunity. KD, thank you for 5 mediocre seasons. I understand a lot was expected from you and you did a fair job. I’m sure u learned a lot, however, its time to go. You left UCLA with a great recruiting class and we should be better next season. And thank you, KD, unlike Toledo, you recruited from several inner-cities schools and other CIF schools unlike Toledo, for whatever reason chose not to. Toledo should have been fired after his third season. Anyway, thanks KD.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:44 pm
CA,FLA,TX - 3 of the best recruiting areas….a third stringer QB from Pomona, no back up RB’s, Jay Norvell
is in over his head….20 returning starters !!! Navy
would have beaten this team today easily….KD can’t
recruit, can’t coach, can’t motivate, …PERIOD !!
December 1st, 2007 at 6:45 pm
That’s got to be it. I can’t take another season of this. I’d rather get the rebuilding process started next year rather than have to deal with one more year of incompetence.
All of the talk about injuries and everything is nonsense. We weren’t injured for Utah and he’s had healthy teams in the previous years. Where has this program gone since Dorrell was hired? The only decent season we had was based on some incredible luck and if it weren’t for that year Dorrell’s record would be unbelieveably terrible. So terrible that it’s miraculous he was able to coach this year.
The Dorrell and Norvell combo has to be the worst thing to watch in the history of UCLA football. I only hope that it is finally over cause I really can’t watch it anymore.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Not so fast, NOT SO FAST!
If they don’t replace KD with a quality coach such
as Neuhisel, then they might as well keep KD for another year. I sure as hell don’t want to see the Bruins make the same mistake the Minnesota Gophers made when they dumped an inconsistent Glen Mason. They got 1-11.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:49 pm
Get Neuhisel or keep KD.
No in-betweens.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Chris Forcier should start next yesar or a healthy Cowan. Cowan has heart and toughness so it is hard to hate him. GO BRUINS! Beat Texas in BB
December 1st, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Dorrell’s west coast offensive juggernaut today:
10 first downs
12 yards net rushing
167 total net offense
0-11 on third down
’nuff said,
hasta la vista DUDrell!
December 1st, 2007 at 7:22 pm
I really cant take this anymore. I like many of you live and die by UCLA football. Last year at the UCLA v SUC game at the rose bowl, I told God that if we won by some miracle, I would marry my then girlfriend. And then McNeal intercepted. Subsequently, I broke up with her a month later, but every so often she calls me and wants to know when the marriage date is. this year i tried to go double or nothing by saying that if we beat sc, i would get my PHD. since we lost, i now have to do nothing, thankfully. So really i blame myself for this years loss and not wagering something big against God. but at least we are getting rid of Dorrell. but i swear, if the Rose bowl allows SC to make it their home next year, I may have to:
a. boycott the season
b. marry my ex
c. get a PHD
d. construct several churches in tijuana
just to get back on Gods good side…

If DOOFUS isn’t gone on Monday, you should change this website to DUMP GUERRERO. Seriously. As for coaches, I like Chris Petersen or Paul Johnson of Navy. If we could get either of those guys, there would be profound rejoicing in the Bruin Nation. The argument that we should keep DOOFUS because we might get somebody worse is the worst type of settling for the “devil we know.” That’s why people stay in bad relationships and dead-end jobs. Because they’re scared to make a change. We need to boldly say we’ve had enough of this crap, we’re going to clean house and demand excellence. Period. We’re not going to settle for less.
To see that DOOFUS have the BRUINS fumble and stumble away opportunity after opportunity for FIVE YEARS is plenty long enough. We need a football program and a football coach that embody the Committment to Excellence that we all know is what U C L A is really all about.
DUH-rell, have a nice life. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
December 1st, 2007 at 7:54 pm
All kidding aside- this was an extremely winnable game! The Defense played awesome. Time for a change! This offense was sad and a big part of it is the offensive line. They play with no passion and why are they always standing there after the ball carrier is on the ground? GET RID of the entire offensive staff. They are absolutely useless! It’s gonna be tough next year with young team. Scrap it and start over. I want someone with an offensive mind who is not afraid to challenge a team that may be better. Quit the trickery when you are starting to move the ball!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Everyone seems to blame KD for UCLA failures. I believe KD deserves at least 60% of the blame. Cowan is a bum, Olsen is one step above a bum, Raashan is one step below a bum. UCLA’s running game is horrible as well as their receiver’s. Yes, u can blame the general for some things, but sometimes look at the general’s soliders as the reason for his failures. Cowan is a bum, period.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:36 pm
“The Defense played awesome”? If 438 yards, 26 first downs and 3 touchdowns and field goal is “awesome defense”, I think you are setting the bar a little low …
December 1st, 2007 at 9:53 pm
Well, another mismanaged loss to SC by a thoroughly out-coached Bruin team. This program has gone to Hell. If Guerrero doesn’t fire Dorrell, then he qualifies as a bigger idiot than KD.
Rumor has it that Steve Mariuchi is a probable successor for Dorrell. I sure hope not.
Gurrero needs to hire a kick-ass, no nonsense coach that brings a “take no prisoners” attitude with him. For the last five years I’ve watched the Bruins get pushed all over the field by inferior teams. Opposing teams end up calling the Bruins “soft” and out of shape in post game interviews. Isn’t there a weightroom in Westwood? I long for the day when we aren’t the “gutty little Bruins” and we start playing smash mouth on a level with the SC’s, Ohio State’s and LSU’s of the NCAA.
Dump Dorrell and hire someone who can turn this thing around. PLEASE!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:01 pm
Gott sei Dank! That’s German for “thank God.” Thank God this season is hopefully over. UCLA has as much right in a bowl game as a donkey running in the Kentucky Derby.
Hopefully, today was the last time we see Dorrell and his clown staff, except maybe for Walker, on the sidelines. DG, if you fire KD, please don’t hire Neuheisel. He carries too much baggage. And please, DG, spend some money on a coach. Remember paying good money for a coach who produces winning teams brings more money. It’s called ROI.
I
December 1st, 2007 at 10:36 pm
Come on, Wayne, Neuhisel got a bum rap and was exonerated.
To be falsely accused of caca should not be construed as baggage. I swear, if DG hires another no-name from the NFL…
December 1st, 2007 at 11:18 pm
LMAO in Nevada- Give the Defense a break, they were on the field for 30 more plays than USC’s “D”. If the offense moves the chains and puts points on the board you might be able to reduce that total by around 150 yards. they shouldn’t be on the field for that amount of time. Maybe we will have an efficient offense next year to help out the “D”. Here’s hoping! Bring on Basketball!
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:33 am
Hey JC who do you think recruited all of those guys.
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:07 am
KG recruited most of these soft QBs from Hart, Westlake, Saugus, Valencia, and Utah, based on KD’s hopes of running the WC offense. You cannot run this type of offense in College, so dump it. KG incoming recruiting clas is top 5 in the Nation. UCLA should be better next year minus Cowan as a starter. Speaking of next year QB, Cowan, Olsen, or Raahan, who should start. Why, is KD so freakin loyal to Olsen and Cowan. Cowan is a bum, Olsen is too fragile, and Raashan is too raw. Screw them all and start over. UCLA will not win with Cowan or Olsen, period, they’re bums. Next
