Nail In Coffin: TJ Simers Calls On Pete Carroll To Save Karl Dorrell

If this circus that has been going around town trying to Save Dorrell hasn't entertained or wowed you enough then TJ Simers has something for you.  Today, as part of his flip-flopping campaign to Save Dorrell, Simers pulls out the final word, the Humanitarian himself, Pete Carroll. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig, Simers

On (Dorrell's future), though, you would think Carroll would be considered an expert.

"I think (Dorrell's) done a fantastic job," Carroll said. "I think they have had the issues that can stagger a program with the quarterback situation that they have had, let alone other injuries that they have had."

"I think they have gone to a couple levels beyond where most teams go where you have to go to your backup quarterback," Carroll said. "To have to suffer through that back and forth, they found ways to win and created an opportunity to win when a lot of other teams wouldn't have. . . . He's found a way to keep his team together."

Doesn't it make you feel dirty just reading that?!  Wow.  Simers really dug down deep to help us out.  We at UCLA should all send him a big thank you note.  Cmon now admit it, none of us Bruins knew how to approach the god of football to give us a sign, a signal, as to what to do with our football program … how to make it better.  Thankfully, Simers stepped in and did it for us.  Thank you TJ, we are forever indebted to you.  Let's keep Dorrell everyone … Pete Carroll says he's doing a "fantastic" job!!

Lest any of you crazies think Pete Carroll doesn't have our best interests in mind when he talks about our football program and Karl Dorrell, Simers erases any and all doubt:

I asked, of course, just as you would, whether Carroll was praising Dorrell just to keep him around because it'd be the best thing for USC in the long run.  He said no, which is understandable after Dorrell's team cost the Trojans a chance to play for a national title last year. "It's not a coach's fault guys get hurt," Carroll said. "It's almost too much to ask when things happen like that."

Carroll talked about the injury to John David Booty and how it affected the Stanford game, and the fact the Trojans had to take on Oregon with a backup quarterback.  "I think it's a fact [Dorrell] has been up against extraordinary odds," Carroll said, "and we understand what it's like."

Wow.  Dorrellistas are now in bed with the hated Pete Carroll.  This just made our day.  Thank you TJ …

  1. Bluebruin (AKA Diego) Says:

Simers is like Duke Vitale; he’s not meant to be taken serious. It’s a comment on how lacking in journalistic integrity he really is.

This attempt at saving KD using Carroll is about as good of a move as that radio show he tried with his daughter. That was some BAD RADIO!

  2. Jim M Says:

That was perhaps the most immature, I can’t believe he has a job, piece of journalism I have ever read. TJ I’ll let you in on a little secret, us Bruins loved Paul Hackett too. We hated to see Paul go. Paul wasn’t a Head Coach while at USC and hasn’t been one since after being fired by USC. But that doesn’t mean those of us that bleed blue and gold don’t still love Paul. Karl Dorrell isn’t a Head Coach now and he won’t be ever again, just like our beloved Paul. Let me offer you some advice TJ, interview the fan that is laying down $50 a game for this piece of crap product. Interview the players that aren’t developing to go on a live their dream of playing in the NFL because Karl Dorrell, like Paul Hackett, isn’t a Head Coach that grows his crop. Better yet TJ, go interview the whiner Lute Olson and see the excitement on his face when you tell him Ben Howland has just been fired and Steve Lavin has once again been named the interim Head Coach.

The only thing I can take away from this TJ is Pete Carroll had no other preparation needed for Karl’s illustrative offense and probably accepted a free round of golf from you to conduct this in depth journalistic piece. Lap dogs like you only have jobs as long as the ass you are kissing doesn’t have a better set of lips to back up to.

TJ’s response to my email of my previous post:

“He’s not a head coach but somehow good enough to go 10-2 and the next year beat a usc team needing only one win to play for title….if you don’t acknowledge that anything else u say lacks credibility”

  4. JRBruin Says:

Amazed you got a response.. Did he even watch that 10-2 season? It was fluke after fluke, a good team that KD couldn’t inspire to play well until they were down by at 14-21 points. It was fun to watch those comebacks, but it certianly didn’t show any coaching prowess IMO.

  5. Jim M Says:

My response back to TJ was:

I will be happy to acknowledge Karl Dorrell is a Head Coach for another 5 days. And yes I will also acknowledge that Karl Dorrell was Head Coach when UCLA went 10-2 in 2005 as long as you are willing to acknowledge that:

    1) the 10-2 record consisted of only 5 teams with winning records
    2) the 10-2 record consisted of only 2 ranked teams
    3) the 10-2 record was against teams that had a collective record of 67-72
    4) the 10-2 record was against teams with an averaged overall year end ranking of 52nd out of 120 teams ranked in 2005.

So lets just agree TJ that even a broken clock is right twice a day and Karl Dorrell, in 2005, was the beneficiary of a very easy season for which a head coaching legacy is not defined nor should future employment be determined.

The USC victory last year cannot be explained by anyone, including yourself, other than, it was devine intervention and that it was allowing UCLA to prolong the firing of Mr. Dorrell until this year to make room for his replacement that wouldn’t otherwise have been available last year. Once again, even Paul Hackett won a few games prior to USC finding Pete Carroll.

  6. BuckeyeBruin Says:

Talk about absurd!! OF COURSE Carroll (and Simers- the Trojans’ no. 1 fan) wants Dorrell to stick around. He’s 8-1 against him!! I’m also an Ohio State Buckeye as well as a Bruin fan. This nonsense is the equivalent of Tressel saying he thinks Lloyd Carr should stick around so we can go another 6-1 against him. Tressel wouldn’t even bite on that bait if it were offered to him.

Carroll and Simers are probably distant cousins, or maybe T.J. is on the Trojan’s payroll.

  7. Tom Says:

Well just add a “r” here and an “a” here, and thrown a “a” and a “n” and there you have it….

  8. Daryl Says:

I think we should somehow find a way to encourage every SC fan to cheer and scream for Karl Dorrell when his name is announced pregame in the introductions on Saturday. What a great testimony to SC’s support of our coach.

  9. yooklafan Says:

Foxsports has UCLA ranked 40th in the nation on its weekly poll, way to go KD!!!

  10. Leonard Feebowitz Says:

Hurry up Dan Guerrero! While you and KD are blowing your affirmative action whistle, another head coach gets scooped up, this time by Baylor (Art Briles).
If you move muy rapido, you may be able to “cash in” on Sonny Lubick from Colorado State.
The best Bruin faithful can hope for is your Chancellor (not DG) can woo Norm Chow over as your head coach. For a history lesson, he engineered the offense for ‘SC for two Heisman winners and coaches in the pros. Do you think KD can compare resumes?? Fearless prediction: USC 48 UCLA 9 (3 FGs).

  11. bruin genius Says:

Talk about absurd!! OF COURSE Carroll (and Simers- the Trojans’ no. 1 fan) wants Dorrell to stick around. He’s 8-1 against him!!

What are you saying? Karl Dorrell did not face Pete Carroll 9 times. Dorrell became the head coach of the Bruins in 2003.
    Get your fact straight!

  12. BuckeyeBruin Says:

Oops–I rolled up the almost decade-long losing streak to USC. Yes, that’s not all on Dorrell. Guess that makes him 1-3 (soon to be 1-4) against the Trojans.

  13. LawrenceSFBruin Says:

    Hey IDIOT GUERRERO,

How much more evidence do you need shoved into your face like a giant DIRT SC S–tpie. Now O.J.U.’s bitch, Carroll, is backing your boy, Dorrell.

    FIRE YOUR MISTAKE: DORRELL.

In case you’re strolling around in bliss lost in the Twilight Zone, UCLA is going to chuck you like the way NEBRASKA FIRED their IDIOT A.D. for extending the contract of their horrible coach.

Show some appreciation towards UCLA for hiring your unqualified ass; rectify your EGREGIOUS DORRELL ERROR; FIRE HIS ASS; DO YOUR JOB for Christ’s sake!!!

Is it just my browser or did someone yank the Petey the Great Humanitarian website?

  15. John F Says:

What about the first part of TJs column, when he was interviewing DG specifically about KDs future? At the end of the interview, DG said “I’ll see you Sunday” with the implication being there will be a press conf. to announce KDs firing the day after the game. To cover, the SI director Dellins said, “For the basketball game” (against Texas). TJ seems to think this may be a done deal and both DG and Dellins are in on it. One can only hope.
