Bruce Feldman ESPN: Dorrell Will Be Fired If He Loses To SuC
This should come as no surprise obviously, but it is noteworthy that senior ESPN college football writer Bruce Feldman stated on his blog today that if Karl Dorrell loses to SuC he will be fired:
The buzz here in Los Angeles is that if Karl Dorrell's team doesn't upset arch-rival USC on Saturday, the Bruins head coach will be fired shortly thereafter.
And if you want to know how Feldman gets some of his information, check this out:
Dorrell's record of 35-26 has only riled up a growing pool of Dorrell bashers, who have been peppering local and national media with their Dump Dorrell campaign for over a year. Barring a shocking upset Saturday, I suspect the Dump Dorrell crowd will get their wish.
That's right, Feldman is on our emailing list. He received the email regarding the Daily Bruin ads, as well as other critical email releases. The Daily Bruin ads once again get press. Feldman goes on to talk about potential replacements. We do not have an ESPN insider membership but Feldman mentions before the jump Texas Tech's Mike Leach, who apparently has made it public that he would like to be considered (!) for the job, and Rick Neuheisel:
That would trigger an interesting search with former Colorado and Washington coach Rick Neuheisel's name expected to be in the mix. What's not a rumor is that two former BYU guys each would love to get a crack at the job. Sources close to Texas Tech coach Mike Leach say he'd be thrilled to come to Westwood and take over the Bruin program. Leach loves Southern California and went to law school here at Pepperdine.
As we have been saying, once Dorrell gets fired we will begin a full-press discussion on replacements.

Anything short of a Rose Bowl birth should result in Dorrell’s dismissal.
If he is fired, I think Brian Kelly would be an outstanding replacement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Kelly_(coach)
Outside of the midwest, you may not be familiar with the guy but I assure you, he is the real deal. He is a recruiting machine, a quality person and the guy can flat out coach! He won 2 national championships at the Div. II level and i’m certain he’ll be challenging for a Big East title next year.
I realize this is his first year at Cincy, but hopefully Guerrero can work out an interview with him.

What is Mike Leach overall record?

64-37 @ Texas Tech

Mike Leach is 64-37 with Texas Tech being his first HC position. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Leach
What the team needs, IMHO, is someone in the mold of Howland. Someone with head coaching experience that cut his teeth with a mid-level program and had some success and is now ready for the jump to the big-time…

Greg B I too would be concerned about Mike Leach as our coach. Yes we would be the most exciting 7-5 or 8-4 team in the country and would easily average 35+ points per game, but the problem with his offense seems to be it is not very balanced and in a close game the passing offense he employs doesn’t burn the clock. The defense is on the field far too long. I have watced many Texas Tech games and they rarely beat highly ranked teams becauce of their inability to run some time off the clock and also the fact that his teams play terrible defense. They had to hang on for dear life to beat Oklahoma and their 2nd string QB.Had OU starter Sam Bradford not gotten hurt early in the 1st qtr. they would have lost that game at home against OU. Instead of losing to USC by scores of 19-66 it would probably be more like scores of 38-52 but a loss is a loss.

Fred @ 7:31am; even in the shocking event that ucla goes to the Rose Bowl, Dorrell should not be allowed to continue coaching. Are you quite mad my good fellow?

Here’s the rest of the article for people without ESPN insider, it mentions Norm Chow the former USC O-Coordinator (and current Tennessee Titan O-Coordinator) as being another possible replacement:
Leach’s biggest competitor for the job ultimately could be QB guru Norm Chow.
A source close to the Tennessee Titans assistant said that Chow really wants the job. Chow, of course, knows the landscape of the Pac-10 quite well having orchestrated a powerful USC offense just a few years ago. The thought of Chow coaching against his former boss Pete Carroll would be very intriguing.
