Update: Don Morrison Apologizes To Fan

So, word must have gotten round to good old Don Morrison, the elite of the ivory tower. Somehow in the last 24 hours he decided that he indeed must answer to the public that pays his paycheck. To wit (edited for privacy):

#####,

I hope that you will accept my apology for my intemperate e-mail response to you. I let my frustrations get the better of me. Your question is a good one. In fact you e-mails have been among the most reasonable that I have received regarding Coach Dorrell. I just let your weekly reminders get to me. Again please accept my apology.

Don

Hmmm … the sincerity is dripping from the page. “Your question is a good one??” Really … that’s where you lost us Don. Say you are sorry ok, make your apology for being “intemperate” and we know it’s all for show (since you got your ass handed to you publicly). But going the extra step and saying that his “question is a good one” just busts us up. Cmon. This is ridiculous. It just shows more scorn. Don thinks all he has to do is pat the guy on the head and the parasitic plebe will run along appeased. Have some stones Don. Your email is pathetic.

Losing cultures like the one Don displays do not go away overnight. It will take a Ben Howland type coach, excellent and experienced at what he does, disciplined, and uncompromising to change the losing Morgan Center culture that permeates our football program. And don’t kid yourself .. even if we do find that guy, it will take years to force change just like it has Howland. But that is exactly what we need.

..this is too precious. Clearly, he got a blast of e-mails loaded with invectives and had a “come to Jesus” moment. DD, I guess it shows you how powerful the “dump-Dorrell” movement really is.

WHP .. yeah he had his “come to Jesus” moment alright. Wish we thought to put that in our post. Morrison must have gotten a ton of emails from DD and BruinsNation and other sites viraling his emails to come out so fast with an apology. And you know he heard from some admin and Morgan Center folks too. Too funny.

WHP '68 @ 9:11 am:

DD,

Interesting (but not shocking) contrast: Ben Howland is 99-41 in his fifth season (69%) after cleaning up Lavin’s mess. His program is decidedly on an up-tick (understatement of the year) with a bright, promising future. Dorrell was brought in to clean up Toledo’s “mess”, is below 60% (even with the 10-2 “miracle” season) in his sixth term, and is going nowhere..

..except out the door, hopefully.

Ted Cole @ 11:06 am:

Dorrell does deserve credit for cleaning up the off-the-field issues that followed Toldeo but he also inherited better players than Howland did. Remember, the number of wins were on the upswing in Toledo’s last 3 years but Lavin’s teams were going in the opposite direction. Which means Howland’s job was even tougher to clean up.

Good sign.

If the admin is willing to admit its wrong here, then it shows that it can be bent by public pressure and that our public pressure on dorrell will surely affect their decision on whether or not to fire him.

Rereading the original message, while Morrisson defends Dorrell, he seemed to be more saying that UCLA wouldn’t fire Dorrell right now before the season ends as Dorrell hasn’t done anything so egregrious to deserve to getting fired right now. Dorrell has done nothing off the field to embarass the school. On the field may be a different matter…
