LAT: Karl Dorrell’s Future Debated Among Serious Alumni
Chris Foster of the LAT notes that Karl Dorrell’s future is now being debated among the VIP alums:
Five seasons of UCLA meandering has taken the discussion about (Dorrell’s) future from insignificant website operators to serious Bruins alumni. That kind of talk carries more weight than Internet chatter.
Woa … wait a minute. Is Foster taking a dig at us?! Ha, whatever Chris … we are “insignificant” … then why did you write an entire article about us in “cyberspace”?! The great thing about the internet is that the media cannot own the voice of the people anymore. Chris Foster knows as much as anyone that the web has impact or he wouldn’t have written about it. Without the web Dorrell would still have his job next year. Anyone doubt that??
Still, although Foster is very vague here, it is great that he is reporting that “serious Bruin alumni” (whomever they are) are debating Dorrell’s future. Other reporters are focusing on how bad things are, which is also good (Brian Dohn):
UCLA’s season, which began with so much promise and so many promises, is teetering on being a crumbling wreck. And Karl Dorrell, the coach who returned to his alma mater to clean up the program and return it to a competitive level in the Pacfic-10 Conference, could be in the final throes of his career.
TJ Simers has no more explanations or excuses, he just simply cracks insults calling our program a “joke” and then this:
YOU HAVE to wonder how joyless life must be for students attending the University of Arizona, looking for any old excuse to have some fun and rushing the field because they beat a Karl Dorrell-coached team.
We need to continue to apply the pressure folks. We are close to the end. Let’s make it happen.

I totally agree with this site about firing dorrell. no disrespect!,but the way this season has gone, whether or not you had this website dorrell would be firid no-matter what. my question though? what are you guys going to do when dorrell is fired? maybe you guys should move to nebraska and head-up a Can Callahan.com! LMAO
Louis Miranda @ 10:20 am:
No Jeff; I think the great majority of us could care less about freakin Nebraska. We only care about UCLA getting a man who can coach and not waste the talent he has on the team with 6-6 or 7-6 records.
e40wada @ 10:23 am:
Why move to Nebraska Jeff when we already have Callahan Jr.(Norvell)as the OC.
Jake @ 10:24 am:
Yeah, but even after Dorrell is gone, the folks at DD should keep its registration active, as they may be able to sell the site to fans of whatever team Dorrell ends up coaching next!
e40wada @ 10:25 am:
Jeff go back to U$uC, where you came from!!!…..
jeff @ 12:21 pm:
lol, usc? come on buddy! I am just straight up and honest! and it bugs me to see a lot of dorks or people say stupid things when they never played a game in their life. but in all fairness,i like the site and support dorrell being fired. he’s a good guy,but that’s what’s wrong with our football program! we don’t need a nice guy as coach! we need a national championship and a coach with guts, fired, passion, and balls! Ucla,Fight!Fight!Fight!
Louis Miranda @ 12:49 pm:
Right on Jeff-Right o n Brother. That’s what I and some other people have been saying. Fans; stop thinking small. If other schools can come out of nowhere and win National Championships it’s time to expect not hope for a coach who can deliver.
Diego @ 1:21 pm:
When Dorrell is fired, this website will be done, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
When we finally had Lavin fired, those of us that started Loselavin.com simply ended it. We wrote a final post saying that we were done since Lavin was gone.
Our sole purpose is to have KD fired. Once that’s done, I’m done here.
Buycker @ 2:02 pm:
In all this time, why has no other team snatched up the bargain coach that is Steve Lavin? Does anyone know?
CoronaBruin1 @ 2:32 pm:
Disappointment already.I’m hoping we lose the last 3 games. Maybe, that will be enough to remove KD. Like most fans , I have had enough of this inconsistancy .I don’t believe Guerrero has HUEVOS to send his boy KD packing , unless the remaining 3 game flop occurs. Let’s end the misery . I hope this plays out favorably for the benefit of the program . Good fortune to all.
Later.
dana @ 2:59 pm:
I don’t think its enough that Dorrell gets fired. This site should stick around untill the next coach is hired, and continue pressuring the admin to raise the standards of ucla football.
Stu @ 3:50 pm:
Yeah…if KD does manage to go 3-0 the last 3, I could deffinately see DG giving him one more gasp. Here’s the way I see it:
-ASU, Oregon and $uC are all ranked teams…which means UCLA is likely to get up for ‘em, they’re not going to “overlook” ‘em. Remember, its the CRAPPY teams we loose to!
-I find it unbelievable that UCLA STILL controls its own fate, and could go the freaggin Rose Bowl!!
-I think 2-1 puts KD on the fence the last 3 games…1-2 and he’s out (even if he beats $uC).
BarbBruin @ 5:29 pm:
Hire Ken Norton, Jr. as Head Coach!
Seriously…. you realize UCLA turned down Ken Norton, Jr’s request to help out with the team as a grad assistant 4 years ago and so he offered his services to USC. I say get him back over from the dark side and hire HIM as head coach! The guy knows his stuff, now knows the USC’s stuff to coach against, what a perfect fit! He looks much better in the blue and gold anyway!
Diego @ 6:04 pm:
that’s not true that it’s only the strong teams we play hard. We only have two examples of that during KDs entire 5 years. Before beating USC last year and Cal this year, KD had ZERO victories over tough, good, top-15 ranked teams.
Look at his record against ranked opponents, you’ll see that it’s a losing record.
Last year we beat USC in a spirited, hard-fought game. This year, we beat Cal, who’s known as a choker, basically. Cal reminds me of the UCLA teams under Toledo (ranked #4 in the nation, undefeated at 6-0, and then lost all remaining games). those are the ONLY marquee games we’ve ever won under KD. He had no signature victories prior to USC last yea. This year, with another laughable schedule like we had in 2005, he has only won one marquee game (@ suspect Cal). Curiously enough, this home victory over Cal matches teh home victory we had over cal in ‘05 (yet another cal team that was supposd to be great, but melted down to end the season).
We’re not going to do anything special against ASU, Oregon or USC. The only point of interest is goign to be the QB position. It will be interesting to see what Osaar does, IF he’s going to be used.

the site may resurface as dump???.com with respect to ucla’s next hire. Given the history of the program, it’s hard not to be somewhat pessimistic. ucla should aim high and bring in experienced, big time coach, but it never seems to happen in football. DG hopefully has more clout and is listening to the masses, but many of us are all to familiar with the culture at Morgan center and the short sighted hiring process. Keep the pressure on DG and admin to break with the past and make the football program a top priority. They have to think big! The damage has been done under Dorrell and it will take a big name to make bruins a perennial contender.
yooklafan @ 1:49 am:
Big article in the Press-Telegram today about Dorrell, and how terrible his record was, but it went on and on about UCLA’s responsibility to blacks like Arthur Ashe, Jackie Robinson the whole deal, anyways it went on and on but basically said he shouldnt be fired because hes black even though all signs record, bowl record, record after november point to him being terrible.
editor: this comment has been edited. just keep it cool guys … humor on this subject can be read in the wrong way.
DumpDorrell @ 1:56 am:
yooklafan … we have a an article on it already that will be published tomorrow morning.
DumpDorrell @ 1:58 am:
To all, we have said we will shut down this site after we get a new hire. We will be here through the replacement search and that’s it. It aint a lock yet.
