Dan Guerrero: No Comment On Karl Dorrell Ouster
Dan Guerrero had a great opportunity to make it known to everyone that talk of Dorrell getting dumped is just talk. He had a great opportunity to make it clear that Karl Dorrell will be UCLA’s football coach next season. But he didn’t take that opportunity after the Wazzu loss. When asked to comment on Karl Dorrell’s future, Guerrero was conspicuously mum (Chris Foster LAT reporting):
Many will say they expected UCLA to flop in Pullman. If so, then many were right. Many are expected to call for Coach Karl Dorrell’s ouster. Athletic Director Dan Guerrero refused to enter into any such discussion, saying, “You understand.” Many will say they don’t.
For those of us who parsed Dan Guerrero’s words after every interview last year know one thing, he is keeping his options open. And that is a great sign. It is great that he is even being asked the question. Two consecutive years of being asked that question has to wear down even the most positive and blindly supportive of ADs, though we are not putting DG in that category. The pressure now though is at it’s highest point, as we are starting to lose recruits (Kemonte Batemen to ASU) and even the players themselves (per Chris Foster):
There was no one in the Bruins’ locker room that seemed mad after the debacle Saturday. Instead, it was the same warmed-over quotes used after the two previous losses, about beating themselves and how they needed to “fix” things and how four-plus seasons of wild mood swings on the field need to end.
It’s getting very close to getting real bad. Dan Guerrero has to start worrying about the program imploding and losing all recruits. We are going to lose recruits anyway, but an implosion where Dorrell loses the players can have a long term negative effect. The clock is ticking Dan …

I think that we should start a campaign to bring in Rick Neuheisel as the new head coach. I think he would be a great fit.
Javier @ 2:08 pm:
Our dear pal KD is going to on the “Loose Cannon” in a few minutes to explain what happen against WSU. Can’t wait to hear his explaination.
Diego @ 4:09 pm:
As difficult as it is to write, losing recruits is a positive sign in what we’re trying to achieve. With any coaching change, recruits are going to be lost. It’s likely that we lost Bateman not to the loss to Wazzu, but to the coaching uncertainty surrounding our school. Recruits will not know who’s in charge at UCLA; therefore they’ll shy away from committing. This forces DG’s hand in yet another way. These are all positives

By the way, my donation has been accepted.
LET’S DO THIS, BOYS AND GIRLS!!!

You can ask Dan directly yourself at dguerrero@athletics.ucla.edu.
Or Karl himself at kdorrell@athletics.ucla.edu

DG’s silence on the KD’s future is note worthy. I appreciate DG giving a minority head coach an opportunity to coach at this level. And I truly believe KD is appreciative as well. However, KD is a mediocre coach. I think he has grown as a person and a coach over the years, but its TIME to move on. Under his leadership, UCLA will always be mediocre. I give KD this point, he recruits in the city section. I’m so tired of players coming from Hart High, Valencia High, Saugus High, T.O HIgh, and Newhall High. Coach Toledo absolutely refused to recruit in the inner-city. Why, not sure. For those who want to bring Rick Neuheisel to UCLA are absolutely crazy. Rick is a hired gun with questionable character issues.

Javier .. we at DD have made it known that we will not yet take a position on any one successor. Right now we want to promote a discussion phase … so everyone should give their take.
Javier @ 8:24 pm:
I understand DD…I wasn’t asking you guys in general to endorse a coach. I was mostly asking the fans that come here. I hate knowing that our future players are starting to change their mind on comming to UCLA. One more thing. This is question is to JC. What exactly do you question about Rick?

I second the motion on Neuheisel. He has the presence and ability to right this program mighty fast. With above average coaching skills and Socal recruits at his grasp, I think we’ll be up there with pompadour. And with him as coach we can finally repel and cast out Donahue’s flatulent influence.
John W. Reagan @ 9:19 am:
Neuheisel is a great choice if you want to win, if not lets make another politically correct hire and totally implode. One of the main reasons cited for hiring Dah-rrell over Mike Riley (now at Oregon State) was that Dah-rrell interviewed well. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
