Cut The Bracelets?? Washington State 27 - UCLA 7

Editor's Note: We are done for the night so if you are new to DD and commenting we won't be moderating comments until tomorrow. We will get to the business of getting a competent new coach then as well.

So much for the pregame talk about how we were ready to play, focused, had a great practice.   So much for the hype of #1 in the Pac-10, undefeated in conference … the losses to the "gimmes" a distant memory but a reminder to play every team hard.  So much for talk of a Pac-10 championship, let alone Bruce Davis' insane talk of a national championshipDid Dorrell answer the bell??  Did he coach hard?  Did the great Defensive Genius, "OUR NEXT HEAD COACH," DeWayne Walker plan for Washington State to run up over 550 yards of offense, 270 yards RUSHING(!), against our 'top' defense??  Washington State, the bottom dweller of the Pac-10 … the team who got crushed by Oregon 53-7 … the team who's coach is probably out of a job next year just schooled Dorrell and Walker.  The silly bracelets Dorrell has the team wear say "Finish Pac-10 Champions" the play on the field says "We don't know what we're doing."

The inconsistency, the inability to win on the road, the inability to beat teams we are supposed to, the inability to put together a winning game plan, the inability to adjust in game, the inability to dominate when we have the talent to do so was all there to see today.  Where are all the Dorrellistas now??  Who is going to support another year of this??!!  Who is going to want Karl Dorrell as our coach next year when we lose 17 starters and 25 players and have a much tougher schedule??  Who still thinks Karl Dorrell is going to win the Pac-10 championship EVER?!!  Might as well cut those idiotic bracelets again … it is October after all.  Get to work Dan!! We are out of rage … more tomorrow.

Get the word out, email Dan Guerrero, the administration and the media!!

NWBruin @ 7:38 pm:

Not a surprise at all! Please read my comment from last week! - ditto

Michael @ 9:37 pm:

Actually, I think our coaching is quite good.

(for the opposing team)

wmm @ 10:32 pm:

Don’t blame you for taking the rest of the night off. Dorrell’s worn us all out.

Meanwhile, I can’t help but notice that a very well-coached ASU team is taking it to Cal.

Chaunce @ 11:07 pm:

Is anyone surprised? This was business as usual.

TommyBruin @ 11:28 pm:

Another Saturday ruined by DUH-rell. How do you get a team to underachieve by that much? Our team came out as flat as a pancake. DUH-rell is the “anti-motivator.”

The score wasn’t as bad, but it looked like Utah all over again. So much for the “new season” “winning in the conference” blah blah blah. Somebody stick a fork in this motherfucker, he’s done.

dana @ 11:50 pm:

A ugly, embarassing loss. But, with SC’s loss to Oregon, I think that will overshadow UCLA’s loss in the newspapers and sports radio. Its like the loss to winless ND, which should have been big except that Stanford pulls off a even bigger upset against SC.

Jess @ 3:20 am:

SC’s loss does not compensate for our loss. At least they lost to a worthy opponent. We lost to the ND of the Pac-10.

What were we doing during practice all week? The boys looked terribly unprepared and unconditioned. Oh wait. With a big win over Cal, who needs to practice.

Last comment: NOBODY should be going to Maloney’s during season, especially the seniors.

Ken @ 6:33 am:

Isn’t this just like Steve Lavin?

1) Inexperienced/Unproven
2) Inconsistent
3) Unable to adjust
4) Allowed to stay way too long

Brent @ 7:46 am:

KD is Steve Lavin, with the exception that atleast Lavin brought in top recruits. Neither can coach a lick, but they both look good standing on the sidelines.

I think one coach that isnt on your list that should be considered is Mike Martz. He played at Fresno State and coached at Arizona State. He has proven to be a quality offensive coach, and he has the head coaching experience we need to right this ship. Everyone went ho hum when Hawaii hired June Jones, but look at what hes done there. I dont know if Martz has any desire to be a college coach, but Im sure he would mind trading in lovely Detroit, for the west coast.

Javier @ 12:25 pm:

We need to start thinking of coaches that would be a great fit at UCLA. Remember one thing. UCLA’s DG looks at this website and other site to see what is being said. Even though he won’t publicly admit it. We need to start mentioning some names for DG to consider. We need to start now. It seems like the LA Times sports writers are starting to catch on more and more about this website. Almost every other day they mention the site. We need to start bringing names up so that they could also start mentioning them on the paper and add more pressure to DG. The most popular names that I have heard are Rick Neuheisel, Steve Mariucci or Pat Hill. I don’t know about Pat Hill but I hear a lot of people mentioning his name. So I am asking all the fans to start thinking of coaches that would be a great fit here.
I personally think Rick would be great here. But I don’t know what is his asking prize. One more thing. We need to recognize the fact that if UCLA does not want to pay $ for a great coach we will continue having coaches like KD. Lets be honest, will they pay $ to get a good to great coach? They have in basketball. It’s time they do the same for the football program.

DumpDorrell @ 12:28 pm:

Javier, here is our discussion of Replacements … add to it if you like. We will update this list soon.

Javier @ 12:35 pm:

How soon before you update list. Have you guys heard of any alumni who would help put up the money to get a good head coach?

tony krogius @ 12:55 pm:

not since my Jan 1, 1976 witness of a great RoseBowl game have I seen a better than mediocre football coach @ UCLA….why can’t we get Dick back

Louis Miranda @ 1:27 pm:

Unreal!

Gary @ 1:51 pm:

Karl Dorrel is the most clueless coach in college football history. The glazed look in his eyes has he stands on the sideline. If he had an ounce of honor in his body, he would resign and spare these young athletes the punishment of spending the “best years of their athletic lives” being coached by a man that is over his head when it comes to being a head football coach at a major university.

Dan Guerrero needs to “grow some” of you know what I mean and make a statement NOW. Fire Dorrell and play out the season. Then FIND THE MONEY and go out and get a quality coach the will bring some legitimacy to our program. A coach that will attract recruits rather than repel them like Dorrel.

Honestly, if you had a son who was an outstanding college prospect…In walks Pete Carroll, Urben Meyer, Jim Tressell, Mike Bellotti..etc, etc, etc…and then “Glassy eyed” Karl srolled through the door and shook your hand with that “dead fish” handshake of his…..would you let your son anywhere near this man????

Forget dumping Dorrell…..RESIGN DORRELL….show us you are not a woman pretending to be a man….show us you are truly a man..and RESIGN!!!

Gary Bolen @ 2:01 pm:

Bruin Nation: We are THIS close to becoming Stanford. To wit: 3-8 is a great season if they beat Cal. Are we willing to settle for endless mediocrity of 6-5 seasons with the occasional win over SC?? I think not! Oh for the days of the “Gutty Little Bruins” who had REAL coaches (Prothro, Vermeil, Terry, et al).

Please, someone … stop the BLEEDING!!! Get rid of this guy!! It’s hard enough being a Bruin in Northern California (although I have many brethern with whom I commiserate). But it’s simply IMPOSSIBLE to go on defending Dorrell (and I hasten to add that I was one of the ones who hailed his hiring). It’s beyond time that we recognize our awful mistake and cut our losses.

Jack @ 3:16 pm:

Actually, the biggest factor for this issue could be USC’s apparent demise. Their shadow is the biggest factor in any ambitious coach coming here, along with not having the high profile of places like Columbus or Gainesville where they are royalty. The spread is the present of college. It combines the entertainment value lacking at both local schools now with the scoring needed for championships. So I would look for an offensive mind in Mid Majors–MAC or WAC–or Division 2 HC.

Bob @ 3:42 pm:

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!
Why won’t that idiot Guerrero get rid of this piece of garbage coach???? He thinks that just because he gave a good basketball program and a good women’s table tennis program that it makes up for the fact that our football program is HORRIBLE.

KD meltdowns:

Fresno State in the Silicon Valley Bowl
Wyoming in the Vegas Bowl
Florida State in the Emerald Bowl
Arizona in 2005 when we were 8-0
Utah this year
ND this year
Wazzu this year

WHAT THE F*CK IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO GET THIS COACH MOTHERF*CKING COACH FIRED??????!!!!!!!!!

Ronnie Walker @ 5:00 pm:

I Love UCLA, first and foremost. Its Sad to see that we are really taking a beating in the national sports scene like this. The AD made a very good choice with Howland, but missed with Dorrell. We deserve a good football coach. We need to make the change and I know we will. We are #1 in National Championships because we have always had the right coaches and athletes.

eastsidebruin @ 6:49 pm:

Words can not describe my frustration and embarrasement.
Thank God for this site. Keep up the great work!
Did you read about the game Wille Tuitama had? He threw for 510 yds and he is up next!!
