BlogPoll Week 5

Below is our BlogPoll ballot for the 5th week of the season (see all our BlogPoll ballots). Obviously lots of movement this week as upsets took place up and down the rankings.   Two the teams we had on top or near it, Oklahoma and Florida, stayed up in the rankings because we simply do not see other teams powering through their conferences. It's a strange year so far.  Oklahoma had their game in the bag and they let up on the pedal letting Colorado take the win.   Florida looked average also and probably took Auburn lightly as well.  SuC looked to be toying with the idea of playing hard but they looked disinterested.  It was a bad week to take off and SuC got lucky they weren't a casualty.

The Big East did not disappoint with the 2 of the 3 remaining overrated teams West Virginia and Rutgers taking convincing losses, just as we said they would eventually.  So they dropped heavily.  South Florida seems to be the only Big East team that may do some damage.

Other moves include Cal up to the #3 spot. They held off a strong Oregon offense who could have tied the game there at the end.  Oregon moved up 1 spot in the loss to Cal because teams ahead of them (Texas, West Virginia) looked horrible in their losses and dropped down.  And no team really looked that great to put in the top 10 ahead of them. Oregon can still do damage in the Pac-10 and even beat SuC.  We don't see Boston College as a top 10 team at the end of the year but who else are we going to put there right now? Georgia, South Carolina?  Not yet.  BC plays Bowling Green and Notre Dame the next two games before playing Virginia Tech away.  Until a team beats them or makes them look bad they continue to rise.

Virginia Tech was not convincing in their win so they continue to slide in our poll, though not by much.  They have to prove they can win a tough game, and they will get that Saturday at Clemson. Kentucky and Missouri continue to move simply because they keep winning but both will get tests this week, with Kentucky playing at South Carolina and Missouri playing Nebraska.  Bama and Penn State are out until they can stop the losing.
