Dump Dorrell

Monday Morning: Here Come The Excuses …

Right on time like a Japanese subway train … Dorrell delivers his scapegoats and excuses for the beatdown at the hands of an 0-2 MWC junior varsity Utah.  From Chris Foster, LA Times:

"This was a complete team effort, in terms of how well we did not execute in offense, defense and special teams."

Did Dorrell just blame the entire team and not take any responsibility himself???  Looks that way to us.  Doesn't the effort and responsibility of the $1 million a year coach, and his $300,000+ per year OC and DC hyped coaches, count for anything?  Dorrell  also went back to his tried and true standby excuse: 17 seniors starters and 20 returning starters are still learning.

Dorrell added the understatement, "there is plenty to teach" from the game film.

Ok, there is always room to learn and grow, but at some point his players must have learned enough right … to at least not get blown out against a junior varsity MWC team? Right?  Will Dorrell ever take responsibility like his players Bruce Davis and Ben Olson were man enough to do for him?  Not likely, hasn't yet.  Instead he still searches for new excuses:

He added that the team will "reevaluate everything" when asked whether personnel changes would be part of the aftermath.

"We had meetings with the team and they understand what the circumstance is," Dorrell said. "Now we start back up and get going in a positive way."

We were waiting for the "new season" line to come in, but Dorrell hasn't resorted to that just yet.  At some point he most certainly will. How else can Dorrell go undefeated unless he picks a 3 game season with which to do that? But before he does that, he has to find one scapegoat … and the obvious one this game is Marcus Everett, whose fumble touchback Dorrell keys on:

"That might have changed a little bit of the momentum of the game," Dorrell said. "We've got to make those plays."

Nice Karl … right on time.

Dan Guerrero must be spinning in his grave.

Oh, he’s not?

Than he should be in his backyard practicing.

Hey, I’ve never coached football in my life but I could deliver similar results as KD - and I would do for a lot less $$$. When will UCLA select a real coach rather than giving an unproven coach his big chance? It’s like giving a newly minted MBA the CEO spot at Microsoft and saying “good luck”. It is a waste of 3 - 5 years of team-building progress before they realize it’s not working out. Our big win over USC backfired - it allowed Dorrell another season.
