Budget Hire? Mercy Hire? High School OC Rumored To Be Next WR Coach
It looks like Karl Dorrell is going back to hiring coaches based on his favorite criteria: No Experience Necessary. Heck it worked once, even if the other 10 times it didn’t turn out so hot. Brian Dohn of the Daily News reports that former UCLA receiver and Crenshaw High offensive coordinator Eric Scott may be our next WR coach. Dohn reports that Scott has the support of players and coaches, and that has the “makings to be a great recruiter.” We remember the same things said about Dorrell and McCarthy, among many other coaches under Dorrell, and look how that turned out! At some point, people have to stop saying the same bs over and over again thinking we are sheep and are going to effing believe it again and again when results prove otherwise.
What kind of hire is this?! A budget hire? Are we hiring Scott because he comes cheap? Is he a mercy hire? Give another former “star” receiver a leg up? Once again, UCLA football may add a trainee to its coaching staff. The 2007 coach trainee class is filling up. “Makings of a great recruiter?” Why not actually FIND a great recruiter? Or, here’s an idea, why not find a great WR coach?
We continue to be amazed at the hiring decisions year after year. There are no lessons learned. One decent hire, and Walker has by no means cemented his reputation, and everyone forgets that Dorrell is making the same stupid hiring decisions now for 5 years!! Eric Scott is not the bad guy here. He should go after whatever opportunities are given him. We wish him the best. But our football program continues to be a joke. Eric Scott should not go from part-time intern with no experience to WR coach of a marquee program like UCLA. He should earn his stripes and learn at a lower level or smaller program. We should be hiring the best proven coaches. When that happens is anyone’s guess.

No way, not when he can hire a proven coach, look at Washington they just hired a guy who has been an nfl wr coach and also was at Michigan state. we need a proven guy no question here!

Why is anyone surprised that Coach Dorrell is rumored to be making an incredibly stupid decision? His numbers demonstrate that he’s the worst coach UCLA has had since World War II. I assume that it will take a collapse on a cosmic scale to get him fired, because our Athletic Director is afraid to be chastised by the Black Coaches Association. (And to those gentlemen, I say this: You give us the head coach of your alma mater, and we will trade him even up for Coach Dorrell. The Dorrell issue has nothing to do with race and everything to do with ineptitude.)
So let him continue to do his usual poor job. We’re conceding another year of mediocrity, but maybe it will become so apparent that even Mr. Guerrero will notice.
