Official Scapegoat #3: WR Coach DJ McCarthy Goes To LSU
So DJ McCarthy did the one-two to LSU, apparently not coming to terms with his alma mater and Ty Willingham at Udub. HT to Bluestreet at BruinsNation for picking this up. He’s got a nice write-up on the news. As he points out, McCarthy is one of 4 coaches we expected would be out after the end of last season.
Some “reporters” would have you think that we are “extremist” here at DD by wildly predicting the ouster of our OC, OL, WR and Special Teams coaches. It’s no accident or stroke of luck on our part that 3 of the 4 coaches we predicted would be out are gone, regardless of the PR being spun out of Morgan Center and it’s mouthpiece the Daily Bruin. They will have you think that Colletto and McCarthy were looking for “new and better opportunities” when any close viewing of the situation says otherwise. Dorrell is cleaning house on the offensive side of the ball to deflect criticism of our poor offense last season … just like he’s done in the past many times. It’s a pattern that Dorrell has mastered in his only stint as head coach.
Last on our list was John Wristen, TE and Special Teams coach. It is late now in the Dorrell firing season, so who knows, maybe Wristen will get spared … or maybe he will lose his Special Teams coaching role. We might not know until Spring Training or the Summer. We will keep you posted.

DJ Mcarthy said it all to Brian Dohn of Inside UCLA discussing his departure to LSU. Quoted,”If & when we (LSU) make to to a BCS bowl game, I’ll have a chance to double my UCLA salary. Thats why Coach Dorrell has lost alot of good coaches.” Wow! Even the coaching staff knows that the bruins dont have the talent to play in a major bowl, now or in the future. I still shake my head wondering what is taking DG so long to make a positive move for this football program. It’s a shame I never hear anything about UCLA’s football team that gets me excited for the 2007 season.

Stan thanks for the pickup. The decision for DJ McCarthy to LEAVE may have been largely financial and family-related, but the trigger to LOOK elsewhere … we have our doubts. Why is it that only the offensive side of the ball is leaving?? And, why would they leave when they have nearly all their starters returning, and most of those returning starters are seniors?? The defensive side of the ball has the exact same situation but they aren’t leaving! Seems the best thing to do would be to parlay the obvious expected improvement next season to a better job and better pay afterwards. It doesn’t make sense at all that extra money was first dangled and that is why he and Colletto left. Remember, McCarthy also interviewed with Washington, and Washington doesn’t give SEC money.
