Dump Dorrell

Wade Phillips New Dallas Cowboys Coach

The long wait is over, Dallas has a new coach. Wade Phillips hasn’t exactly lit it up in the NFL, barely building a .500 resume in 3 seasons with Buffalo and 2 in Denver, with short fill-ins in Atlanta and New Orleans. He is 0-3 in the playoffs as well. Not exactly the resume one would expect the next head coach of the Cowboys to have, but he is from Texas and he has spent 30 years in the NFL, and he is Dallas’ new head coach. The Cowboys normally go for coaches with no NFL head coaching experience and do quite well (Landry, Johnson, Switzer). It’s a head scratcher that owner Jerry Jones goes with a proven mediocre coach.

Dorrell missed a golden opportunity with the poor showing in ‘06. With all the feel good coming out of the Super Bowl, Dorrell would have been THE guy to hire in the NFL. The Cowboys job could have been his. Instead, some retread with similar numbers as KD gets the job and some kid with next to no experience coaching period gets an NFL head coaching job with the Raiders. Next year will have to be KD’s year. The jewel that will probably become available is the NY Giants job. Somehow, we don’t think KD has the temperament for NYC. They would eat him alive. But KD has reached before, he could do it again. Never know. If guys like Kiffin and Phillips get head coaching jobs anything is possible.

KD in the NFL would be interesting @ 2:51 pm:

I would love to watch his post game press conferences to see how many cliches he can grind out without having to check his list.
