Dorrell: Im Looking For A Great Leader
So are we, Karl, so are we!! In another mind-numbing attempt to raise hope with cliches, Karl Dorrell spoke with Lonnie White of the Trojan Times a little more about his decision to fire first year offensive coordinator Jim Svoboda. In defending his own poor record in keeping OCs and a functioning offense, Dorrell offers his cliches:
"I know we have a foundation of offense … but that foundation allows us to grow and to add and implement things for improvements. I'm receptive to doing what is necessary for us to continue to improve."
After an entire season of "growing" and "learning" now we have a "foundation" which "allows us to grow" some more. WTF?? Lonnie White give back your friggin diploma … seriously. How can a real journalist continuously let this shite get through without ANY form of criticism or obvious follow on question??? And here's more:
I decided to go through and make this change particularly to give ourselves some new leadership on that side of the ball and build on 2007 … I believe I do have some time to go through the process in meeting with people who are potential candidates and getting together a great staff. I was able to do that with a good deal of success last year on the defensive side, and I'm sure that I'll be able to find a great candidate who can help us and lead us on offense.
Reading this just pisses us off. Where do we start?! We need new leadership period Karl. Dorrell has had "time to build a great staff" for 4 years. He will now look for a 4th OC in 5 years. What makes KD think that we should believe him when he says he can now finally find a "great candidate (to) lead us on offense?" Oh, right, he is using as his big example of "success" the hiring of defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker. Unreal … so the reason Karl is saying he is successful is because of an assistant he hired. Un-freakin-believable. Why isn't Lonnie White calling KD on this shite?! Karl Dorrell told the friggin media and the UCLA community when he got hired that he was "the right man for the job." Bullshit. DeWayne Walker is the right man for the job, according to you Karl. Now you are looking for what?
Continuity is always good when you can find it, but I'm looking for a great leader.
So are we Karl, so are we!

The parallel between KD and some of the contestants on American Idol is now painfully clear. They think they can sing. He thinks he can coach and spin cliches for the media.
The difference, of course, is that no one in the MSM has the you-know-whats to call him on it. I think there would have been a few follow-up questions if the reporter had been Simon Cowell rather than someone whose journalism degree probably came from justsc or some equally vapid spot.
