Karl: Do Not Take Over OC Duties

If the reports on AM 570 are true, that Dorrell not only fired Svoboda (officially) but he decided he will take over OC duties it is a remarkably huge risk he’s taking.

We have a hard time believing it to be true. We have a message for Karl: Karl, c’mon, you barely could get plays in that you didn’t call! You barely could keep clock management duties in your head. You weren’t even in the huddles most of the time. You are a “Thinker!” You get lost in your thoughts on the sideline. You can’t keep your head straight with head coaching duties. There is no way you are going to be able to add OC duties to it all. It’s blows our mind that you are even considering it. We posed the possibility yes, but we KNEW there was no way you would do it!! Too much to do, too much risk!

If the offense goes sour you have no scapegoats. Sure, we would ride you hard if you hired another OC only to make him disappear in October, but it beats putting the burning light of blame on you directly. Next year you won’t be able to fool even the casual fan. This is a bad idea. You are believing your own hype. Stop reading the papers - ones that are putting your name up for consideration for NFL and other college jobs (Louisville?!!). And the game against Cal where you took over 25% of the offense was not that impressive. The 500 yards against Cal was mostly in garbage time and they were the 92nd ranked defense in the country. After the Cal game, our offense was pathetic. Look at the numbers!! Karl, you would be committing career suicide, don’t do it!

We just don’t get this move … if it’s true. Dorrell must have people in his inner circle egging him on. Telling him that he is the reason for all the wins, and Svoboda for all the losses. In the end, we will all lose out, the fans, the players, the students, the alums, the boosters. But it will hasten Dorrell’s removal, so there is a silver lining. Our brilliant evil plan to rule the football universe next year is so dead in the water. Hopefully, this is some sort of PR trial balloon to see fans reactions. Hey, at this point we’ll take it.

Is it possible DG has directed KD to take over the OC duties? Maybe he has no choice. Since offensive issues were a big deal this year, DG might have directed our HC to fix the issues himself before getting anyone else in the mix. That could presume KD is on a short leash as well.

Jason @ 11:38 am:

OC duties residing with the coach is generally a bad idea nowadays. Head coaching duties are much more akin to active game management and coaching, not calling plays.

Look at the step forward that Georgia made this year once Mike Bobo was named OC and Mark Richt was able to manage games more effectively, without having to worry about which plays to call.

By contrast, look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I rest my case.

colonybruin @ 7:01 pm:

If D-G told dorell to do the offence calls . . . then D-G is truly an Idiot ___ i hope dorell does because then more will see what a loser he is , and then no more dorell ___ BUT the PROBLEM is really dan g. he is the person we have to get rid of

DumpDorrell @ 8:11 pm:

we’re pretty sure DG would not direct KD to take over the offense. That’s just not something an AD would do. This is Dorrell’s decision.

colonybruin: the only blemish on DG’s record is Karl Dorrell, and there are conflicting reports as to his input/influence in hiring Dorrell. He brought in Howland and Savage and our basketball and baseball programs are performing brilliantly.

maybe its not such a bad idea for Karl to take over OC duties.

In KD’s five years as an offensive coordinator in Div 1A, his offenses have averaged 405.2 yards per game, 28.4 points per game, and his teams finished 40-19. These we during his four years at CU with Rick Neuhiesal (95-98) and his one year at Washington with Neuheisal again (99) After his 1999 season as OC, he was hired by Mike Shanahan as Denvers Wide Receivers coach. It should be interesting.

DumpDorrell @ 1:54 am:

Joe … it’s pretty well known that Neuheisel called most of the plays on offense - that was his thing. KD was a minor assistant. If you are excited about KD taking over OC duties, you don’t need to go back to someone else’s offense to gauge KD’s OC capabilities … take a look at the games following the Cal game. Check out our abysmal offensive production during the games KD ceremoniously took over some of the play-calling from Svoboda. KD achieved those numbers only weeks ago with the SAME TEAM he will be working with next year. Your enthusiasm is misplaced.

D-G did not find howland _ howland called UCLA, on his own because he hated Penn. _ remember , that D-G when a-d at irvive pass on Howland as a coach and hired someone else __ D-G had no idea how to pick a coach, so he hired Howland, because he did not know what/who else to turn to

DumpDorrell @ 9:52 pm:

actually, we did not say DG found Howland, the words used were “brought in” Howland.  And Howland did call UCLA, but have to disagree with you about DG … Howland was killing it at Pitt. Didn’t take a genius to figure out Howland had talent, sure, but we are pretty certain DG knew he had a great opportunity to sign a great coach.

colonybruin @ 6:43 pm:

if howland had-not called , what would D-G do ? __ he can’t pick a b-ball coach, anymore than he can pick a football coach __ meaning right now the b-ball team would be just as bad as the football program __ howland called , allowing D-G to keep his in-adequate-ness, hidden from those who can’t see beyond their nose __ listen Everything is on D-G , he wants to be the big cheese, and play God __ so don’t feel sorry for him, because he can take the whole program down with his compulsive ego trip __ D-G is a much bigger fraud the delusional dorrell __ it is called the concept of responsibility

DumpDorrell @ 7:35 pm:

colony, we got it, you dont like the job DG is doing. we are going to agree to disagree on this for now. we may be in your camp soon .. but we will give him a little longer to fix this.

BillSouthBay @ 3:03 pm:

I would think DG would force a change in football just to get colonybruin on his side!!!

colonybruin @ 7:06 pm:

Thanks _ Bill South Bay

colonybruin @ 7:17 pm:

DumpDorrell _ what I do-not like, are people, who are too ignorant to be put, in a position of responsibility , where hundreds , thousands , or millions suffer, big or small ___ whether it is bill clinton or geo bush , America loses … we all suffer ___ right now all of football kids are having their sport years wasted, because of people like dorrell , toledo, lavin etc. etc. etc. ……… all because people feel sorry for these dummies , instead of the school and the kids
