Petition Sent To Dan Guerrero, Administrators, And Press
The Petition to Dump Karl Dorrell has been sent via email to Dan Guerrero, UCLA administrators (Blackman, Morrison, Field, and the Chancellor’s Office), and to various members of the press (Daily Bruin, LA Times, LA Daily News, LB Press Telegram, OC Register, AM 570 radio, ESPN.com, ESPN Radio). The press did not receive the .csv files with names and contact information of petition signatories. The petition is still viewable and apparently signable (the ipetition team is working on closing the petition). We are going to send a hard copy tomorrow.
Here is the text of the email sent:
Dear Dan
Members of UCLA’s community are speaking with one voice today when we tell you that we want you to fire Karl Dorrell. The petition to Dump Karl Dorrell is attached and nearly 850 students, alumni, boosters, donors, faculty and fans of UCLA have signed their names to it (.csv excel file attached). The petition states the reasons for our request in detail. Many have left comments affixed to their names describing how progress under Karl Dorrell has been unacceptable. We all share the belief that UCLA football should represent the excellence that all other segments of our community represent. We all share YOUR goals for the football program: to win Pac-10 championships, to compete in BCS bowl games, and to beat USC. After 4 years, Karl Dorrell has only 1 victory against USC and has accomplished none of the other goals you set out. He has made our program irrelevant and mediocre and this has cost the athletic department and the university greatly. It is time for a change.
We urge you to act now. Since we wrote and signed the petition, we have located Department of Education data on UCLA athletics department financials (attached below) that supports the case we made in the petition even more. The DOE files prove that the football program has suffered a significant drop in revenues since Dorrell’s hiring ($2.6 Million in the first year alone) and that was after 4 dismal years under Bob Toledo. Not only has Karl Dorrell maintained a mediocre program, we have paid heavily for it. Next year, with so many returning starters - most of them seniors - and an easier schedule, a proven winning coach can have our team of average recruits competing for not only the conference title, but perhaps a national title. Karl Dorrell will have trouble competing for the conference title. We urge you to not squander this unique opportunity. Please fire Karl Dorrell. You have our unwavering support in making this difficult move.
Thank you.
UCLA Students, Alumni, Boosters, Donors, Faculty, and Fans
p.s. The signatories to this petition expect that their names and contact information will be treated with the same privacy policies that the university employs under its strictest interpretations.
