LA Times Finally Printing UCLA Fans’ Disgust With Dorrell
It’s hard to believe, but the LA Times is printing actual criticism of Karl Dorrell. It is in letters to the Editor but hey we will give them credit for at least that. Check out some of the disgust:
The time has come to retire the word “gutty” when referring to the UCLA Bruins and Coach Karl Dorrell. Henceforth, substitute the word “gutless.”
JOEL RAPP Los Angeles
So true Joel. Then there is this one:
You knew it had to happen. Instantaneously crowned as the new geniuses in L.A. after the USC game, the Bruins’ coaches proved once again that they can’t convince their players to sustain a winning effort. Playing a pretty ordinary 6-6 Florida State team, they reverted to being the familiar bumbling, toe-stubbing cross-town rivals that we saw so often during the season. Unquestionably, the 13-9 win on Dec. 2 was a remarkable achievement. In reality, only when they can win consecutive pressure games will they deserve and receive the respect and attention they so desperately crave.
PHILIP V. MANN Pasadena
Don’t think that is going to happen with Karl Dorrell Phil but you are right on the money. Then there is this comment:
OK UCLA fans, you can put all those hats, sweaters and shirts back in the closet. You know the ones you brought out from the mothballs just a few weeks ago after that win over USC. That was a win that the Bruin faithful boasted was the start of a major turnaround for Coach Karl and the UCLA football program. Looks like the only turnaround so far is what happened to them in the second half of the prestigious Emerald Bowl.
RICHARD WHORTON Valley Village
There officially is no Karl Dorrell turnaround. He had a real shot, the only one in 4 years that he has given himself, and he blew it. Next year’s team and schedule should be given to a coach that can actually reach our true potential. Karl Dorrell is not that coach. Good to see LA Times reader’s quotes on this.

How could you not print my letter that was printed in L.A. Times on Saturday, Dec. 30th? You have my permission to use it. Here is the link -

I had real mix feelings about the victory over USC. The win gave Dorrell a reprieve which ticked me off. I was happy for the players, especially the seniors, that they finally beat the Trojans.
I never thought that Bob Toledo was a good head coach. He won with Donahue’s recruits like McKnown and Farmer. Once they graduated, Toledo didn’t do well. Looks like in the last 30 years, Donahue was the best coach. Donahue’s big problem is that he only aimed for the Rose Bowl and not the national championship. And if I remember correctly, Donahue got into two Rose Bowls because Wash. St. beat Washington.
I really doubt if Guerrero will fire Dorrell.
Happy New Year.
