KD Can Win A National Championship Next Year!!

Yep, you read that right. We cannot believe we are the ones saying it either. You do not need to get your eyes checked. We are not jumping on any bandwagon, drinking the kool-aid, or changing our minds about Karl Dorrell’s coaching abilities however. Not at all. In fact, we are piggybacking off many of our analyses and predictions of the program that so far are coming true. Let us explain.

DeWayne Walker’s one year contract extension publicly confirms that he will be gone after next year, looking for the jump to a head coaching job. That solidifies one of our long held arguments, that when the team loses 20 seniors after next year we would see Walker go for his dream. With that confirmation locked we can now make further predictions on what outcomes that fact will produce. One outcome is that it now confirms another fact and prediction we made, that KD will be gone as well for the NFL. You know all the arguments we have made there. With DW almost guaranteed gone, we can lock in that KD will not come back in 08 without his star DC and with his team nearly completely depleted of starters.

Now KD Can Offer A Great OC A Shot At Glory

So that leads us to another conclusion about the soon to be vacant OC position. We made the argument that it will be tough for KD to find a great OC to come fill a spot that any good coach would know will only be for 1 year. We thought that this would hurt KD’s chances next year for a title run in the Pac-10, because KD cannot coach offense either, as he has proven for 4 years. Now we think that the public confirmation of DW gone after 1 year will open up a new possibility for KD. He can now hire and OC for that “championship run!” With DW’s contract made public, UCLA is saying “we know we only have him for 1 year and we are ok with that.”

Think about it. If there is a great OC looking for that jump up in status, looking for that one defining year, that one defining run, UCLA is the job!! No OC will be expected to commit to more than ‘07 with all that we have said will happen (KD and DW bolting). It’s a great job for that one-and-done OC coach looking for glory and the big time (be it a head coaching job or the NFL). If KD sells that angle to the best OC out there it could work!!!

Imagine that … KD gets a great OC to sign on for 1 year?! Voila, instant national championship possibilities! And it will have nothing to do with KD’s coaching abilities, it would be just putting the right DC and OC in place. Amazing. It can happen folks!
