Dorrell Knows He Needs A Win Against FSU

Dorrell says he understands that if the Bruins lose to a .500 team in a lower-tier game bowl, the happy feelings surrounding UCLA’s program would quickly dissipate.

Surprisingly from Lonnie White of the LAT.  It’s strange how journos are still coming out of the woodwork insinuating or saying outright how bad things were for Karl Dorrell now that it’s safe to do so, now that the epic SC win “saved his job.” Don’t know what else to say about it that we haven’t already said.  We recognize that beat reporters especially have it tough because they have to stay close to the program in order to report on it, but we weren’t seeing this kind of frankness during the 4 game losing streak.  Frankness is still a good thing even though we are only seeing it now.

Dorrell even seems more comfortable to state the obvious.

“We had a good hard-fought win and it was fun,” Dorrell said. “I haven’t experienced that in four years and it was great for the program.”

Well it beats reading from the same tired script, that the team is “growing” and “learning.”  Robert Kuwada of the OC Register, who in fairness has printed some of KD’s appalling stats in the past, gets in on the act mentioning an interesting fact.

The Bruins’ victory marked the first time since taking down the Washington Huskies in 1990 that they have beaten a team ranked No.2. UCLA does not have a very good record against ranked opponents under Coach Karl Dorrell - 3-11.

With this big win, now coaches and teams are going to be gunning for UCLA.  We like that, but how will KD respond when he has a target on his back?  A 7-5 coach is going to need some breaks.  Let’s hope KD learns something from all this because next season will be his best chance ever to take the Pac-10 title … if he is here next year.  He still needs that FSU win.
