Dump Dorrell

Mariucci Update & Other Coaching News

Scott Wolf is reporting on his Daily News blog that Mariucci has set his sights on the Arizona Cardinal job, now that Dorrell "has saved his job" with the win over SC. According to Wolf, the big win over SC might have the unintended and unfortunate consequence of Pete Carroll staying at SC rather than taking the Arizona job himself. We thought that as well.  Or, in other words, had Dorell lost to SC we would have both a new coach AND gotten rid of Pete Carroll. Oh well, we'll see how this turns out.

In other coaching news, BC's OBrien has reportedly taken the NC State job vacated by the firing of Chuck Amato. Now that has to hurt BC. Your coach bolting for an intra-conference foe?! No way to spin that into something good. According to a report we heard last night on ESPN radio, OBrien didn't like that even winning at BC this year didn't give him a moment's notice in the local media.  We know what that is like but our coach won't go.

Lisa Love, AD at Arizona State, is wasting no time after firing Dirk Koetter (as we said would happen), interviewing Norm Chow last weekend, according to Scott Wolf. Seems like Southern Cal OC Lane Kiffin, much maligned for not beating us last weekend and only going 10-2, is interested in the job. Funny, so is SC assistant Steve Sarkisian. Lisa Love is saying she doesn't want anyone without head coaching experience. We could look it up but does Norm Chow have any HC experience? We didn't think so.  Love is also considering Texas Tech HC Mike Leach, an alum of ASU.

Now why would ASU be so picky about wanting head coaching experience? Haven’t we proven at UCLA that one can be a head coach at a high profile school without HC experience? All you have to do is remember birthdays in the athletic department, have played for the school, show up, and collect $1mm/year. Not bad.
