A Look Back At Predictions For 2006
Now that the regular season is over, let’s take a look back at what people were predicting for our football team at the beginning of the season. Here are some of the major polls and analysts’ pre-season predictions for the regular season (from a post in August):
AP * #6 (SuC, Cal, Oregon, ASU, Az, UCLA)
Coaches Poll #5 (SuC, Cal, Oregon, ASU, UCLA)
Rivals.com #4 (SuC, Cal, Oregon, UCLA)
Pac-10 Media Poll #5 (SuC, Cal, Oregon, ASU, UCLA)
College Football Poll.com #5 (SuC, Cal, Oregon, ASU, UCLA)
CBS Sportsline * #5 (SuC, Cal, Oregon, ASU, UCLA?)
Real Football #7 (Cal, SuC, ASU, Oregon, Az, OSU, UCLA)
* a guess, since they have the other schools in their Preseason Top 25+, and not UCLA.
As you can see, most are fairly close. When many online Bruins were calling for a 9 or 10 win regular season, the pundits above disagreed. Rivals.com got it right, but picked the wrong Oregon school to finish ahead of us in 4th.
As for us at DD, we predicted 6-6, 7-5 at best. We also changed our call on the Southern Cal game on morning of the game and said we would win. Just stating the facts.
