Dump Dorrell

Post ESPN Radio Interview: It Was A Laugh

If you heard the interview on AM 710 with Mason & Ireland with one of our editors you heard a good laugh. Let’s just clear some things up though.

  1. We do not do this for a living. No one can. It’s odd that they think that. We have careers, advanced degrees. We started this on a lark for fun, and people came to depend on us to help get the word out.
  2. We do not like wasting our time ‘giving some guy grief.’ If KD gets grief from this site he shouldn’t be head coach. This is just a fan site. More than anything we want to shut down this site. As we have said before, it’s a waste of our time. But too many Bruins want Dorrell gone and want us to continue, so we are not shutting it down.
  3. Karl Dorrell won 1 big game guys, lets not lose our heads. The team is 7-5.

Other than that, Mason & Ireland clearly got a laugh over our prediction that Karl Dorrell will jump to the NFL after next season, when he will have a great season, 9-3 no Pac-10 title, by Karl Dorrell’s standard.

Karl Dorrell Gone Before 2008 Or Fired Before 2009

Here is our reasoning: After a peaking in 2007, KD will lose 20 seniors and have an awful 2008 against a tough schedule. He won’t risk his dream of coaching in the NFL with a bad 2008 and possible firing, which Dan Guerrero may be forced to do. At the end of 2008, after six years of coaching at UCLA, Karl Dorrell will have not won a single Pac-10 title, nor played in a single BCS game, and beaten SC only once. Dan Guerrero will have to fire him for not meeting the standard he set. Not to mention, after next season, assistants will bolt to the NFL or other better college jobs like they did after last season when we lost 3 assistants to the NFL after going 10-2. Did they see the writing on the wall? Most analysts think they did. And who thinks DeWayne Walker is going to stay at UCLA??! He will ride the wave of 2007 and be gone as well.

Double Standard With Karl Dorrell

Southern Cal would fire their 4th year coach (and Mason and Ireland would push for it) if he went only 7-5, or 6-6 (just ask Hackett who was fired after only 3 years). Why shouldn’t UCLA?? Koetter was fired at ASU for going 7-5 and having almost identical records as KD. Coker at Miami and Shula at Alabama were fired for going 6-6 this year and 9-3 and 10-2 last year respectively. Mason & Ireland have a double standard. If you think about it rationally, and not emotionally like Mason & Ireland, that is potentially the way it will go down. If it happens that way though we don’t expect them to contact us again. It was fun though.

Mason & Ireland Emotional

One last thing. Last Friday, Mason and Ireland were calling for KD’s firing and that SC was going to kill UCLA. We predicted before the game that we would pull off the upset. Over the weekend, suddenly, Mason and Ireland decide that the “fire Dorrell” movement was in their words “tired.” These guys must cry at weddings, their emotions swing too wildly. They also mentioned that KD has to get a win against FSU to legitimize the SC win. If KD “validated” his job with this great win, then why would a win against FSU even matter??! Our editor asked them that and got no reply. Draw your own conclusions. Like we said, our editor agreed to be on in good fun and it was a good laugh.
