Bowden: Players Looking Forward To Visiting A Different Part Of The Country

So they asked the great Bobby Bowden about playing in the Emerald Bowl against UCLA.  His enthusiasm is infectious.

I know our players are looking forward to visiting a different part of the country.

Bowl games are extremely important in college football and making one is always one of our goals to start the season.

Try to contain your excitement Bobby.  This game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. You’d think there would be a little more interest on their part.  But nowhere on the main FSU fan blog, Tomahawk Nation, do they even spare a breath about UCLA and the bowl game (as of today).  There is one comment on one post, however, from a defeated fan who mocks the idea of playing UCLA in the Emerald Bowl.  Better for KD, we don’t see how an FSU team and coach with this attitude will come to play.

At least we are doing our part to build the hype for the Emerald Bowl folks.  We know this is a “great accomplishment” and “huge” for our football program.

“Obviously, we would like to be playing in a BCS bowl,” Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said. “But the opportunity to play in a great city against a marquee team is a real plus for our program.”

“It’s great for Coach Dorrell, going to a bowl every year that he’s been the head coach,” junior receiver Marcus Everett said. “It’s a great accomplishment for the program.”

So what if FSU doesn’t feel the same as we do, happy with mediocrity.  We will still bask in the dim glow.  After all, the bowl game is hosted by a nut company!  Great job guys!!  Beat Southern Cal!!

Just in case you missed it, an article from the LA Times

Here comes the question, the one Wendell Tyler has learned to expect. He laughs and says, “Oh, man.”

It is morning, still early enough for the former UCLA football star to be drinking coffee, calling into the bedroom for his son.

That would be Marc Tyler, one of the top high school running backs in the nation. The same Marc Tyler who will soon head for college — at USC.

“He was a Bruin fan growing up,” Wendell offers by way of mitigation.

“I still like the UCLA basketball team,” he says.

Which only makes his father laugh more.

“That’s how it’s always been,” Wendell says. “Everybody likes UCLA basketball and USC football.”

Congrats on the bruin BBall team for it’s NO. 1 Ranking!
