Monday Morning Hangover: Bowl Eligible!

Editors Note: Sign the petition, and get your DumpDorrell tshirts for the Southern Cal game.  If Dan Guerrero does not get rid of Karl Dorrell this year he won't be able to until the end of the 2009 season at the earliest! So, get the word out!

The euphoria of getting to .500 last week against OSU has created even more hyperbole in Westwood this week, if that is possible for a 6-5 team that just beat a mediocre ASU. Our players and coaches are calling the win over hapless Arizona State, "Huge!" They are talking about how at UCLA "the expectations are you go to a bowl game."  Here we thought it was  championships and the Rose Bowl, not the Pineapple Bowl, or whatever it's called.  That is what  Dan Guerrero thought too when he hired Karl Dorrell … he said something about conference championships and BCS  bowl games, and beating Southern Cal.  Maybe we're splitting hairs here at DD. While the women's and men's soccer teams, and the women's and men's volleyball teams, close in on our 100th national championship, and our men's basketball team prepares for another run at the title game, and the women's softball team and men's baseball team make their own runs at championships, our football program under Karl Dorrell did something HUGE of their own, they became Bowl Eligible!!

New Standard For UCLA Football: Bowl Eligible & 6 Wins!

That is the new standard at UCLA football under Karl Dorrell, Bowl Eligible.  Suddenly, we are looking up at the Boise States and Rutgers and even now the Rice's of the world.  Yep, Bowl Eligible is now not enough for them.  They want to win conference championships and get to  a BCS  bowl.   It's sad that we have sunk this low.  It's sad to see so many so-called Bruin fans accept mediocrity in the most high-profile, and revenue generating, athletic program in college sports.  The cure for this hangover will be Southern Cal.  All this talk looks silly to them, and will look stupid to us when we get blown out at home, again.  So much for 'getting better,' so much for 'huge' wins. Nestor at BruinsNation has a great read on the how the offense has gotten "better" since KD starting calling some plays against Cal.  The hype over the long  called for  move has produced nothing of significance, except maybe that Jim Svoboda will more than likely be gone at the end of this year.

our standards are shameful. Why is it that in nearly every other sport UCLA fields a team they are expected to compete at the highest level, but Dorrell’s football team its not?!
