Dump Dorrell

Get The Word Out!!

It’s time to start getting the word out to the media, to Morgan Center and to Murphy Hall that we have had enough (all contact information is listed below)! Tell them that you disapprove of the job Karl Dorrell is doing and that it’s time for a new coach. Tell your friends to do the same by using the email link under this post. Here are some reasons to Dump Dorrell that you can put in your messages, but we are sure you have some of your own.

Reasons To Dump Dorrell (updated as of 12/27/06)

  1. 1-3 against Southern Cal.
  2. No Pac-10 championships.
  3. No BCS bowl games.
  4. 1-10 on the road against teams with a winning record.
  5. Worst starting 3- AND 4- year record of any UCLA football coach since WW2, including Bob Toledo who was fired.
  6. Worse winning percentage than Bob Toledo, who was fired.
  7. 3-11 against ranked teams.
  8. 2-7 against top 10 teams.
  9. Only 6 conference wins against teams who finished over .500.
  10. 19-14 against Pac-10 teams.
  11. 8-17 against teams with a winning record.
  12. 10 losses to unranked teams.
  13. He has a losing record after October, 6-12.
  14. Embarrassing losses to Wyoming, Fresno State, Arizona, Southern Cal.
  15. Revolving door for assistant coaches.
  16. 80% of Bruins fans polled on Bruinsnation.com disapprove of the job KD is doing.

You can also mention that we are cheap when it comes to paying our coaches, #44 in the nation not including big time powerhouse private schools like Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Miami. And Cal pays nearly double what we pay! We are getting what we pay for, and we are tired of it. Karl Dorrell is a great guy, but bad coach for our program. Tell Dan Guerero to Fire Karl Dorrell.

Bruin92 @ 9:23 pm:

Things may not be working out that great in the NFL and this may very well be his last year as OC for the Titans. But imagine Norm Chow as offensive coordinator or even the coach. Don’t laugh. He couldn’t do a worse job than either JS or KD!

October 28, 2006

Makenji @ 2:16 pm:

I’m not laughing. I am thinking the same thing. With the Titans staff mostly likely to be fired after the season, rumors have already started with Chow going to UNC, NC State and FSU as HC. Chow has ties out west and should start appearing on the short list of schools that are going to be or should be getting rid of their HC including Arizona State, Oregon State, Arizona, or Stanford, but I believe he is the perfect fir for UCLA.

1. He is a big name in college football and Southern California. His hiring would create a buzz for the football program. (and not the “Oh crap, we just hired a guy whose only experience is a positions coach” type of buzz.) Positive buzz.
2. This is who Ben Olson wanted to play for. The deciding factor for him to transfer returning from his mission was that Chow was no longer on the BYU staff. What QB wouldn’t want to play for Chow? We all have heard of the quarterbacks he has worked with and helped developed. His name alone should help us attract the top recruits on the offensive side of the ball
3. Although the rumor mill currently has him being linked to jobs out east, he and his family maintain their residence in Manhattan Beach. This should give us an advantage in hiring him. Seeing how we all know how thrifty UCLA can be when paying for a HC maybe we could even get a hometown discount.
4. Pete Carroll and his inflated ego pushed Chow out the door to give the OC job to his godson. Rumor has it they did not part on good terms. If Chow only won one game his first year as coach I know it would be this game. I am sure he would like nothing better than to run up the score on those clowns like the rest of us.
5. Arizona and Stanford interviewed and passed him up. Stanford wanted someone with experience. Arizona wanted a defensive minded coach. (Look how those hires turned out) Two more games he will be wanting to prove a point in.
6. KD may have pushed Ken Norton to the dark side, but perhaps Chow could use his connections to bring him back home.

Mark Rienhart @ 9:59 pm:

Dump Dorrell! He must be a mean pinball player because he stands on the sidelines like a deaf, dumb and blind man to what the other coaches are doing. How about moving vertcal at least beyond the marker on third down? How inept to continue a dink and dunk offense that cant get its plays in on thime that never takes a shot at the end zone. Dump Dorrell. How can I help to stop this continued mockery of our program? This man never deseved such a position and has proved that he is not entitled to continue!

Jethro @ 10:50 pm:

Neuhisel would be perfect for UCLA, young, charismatic, offensive minded, can recruit talent, led the Bruins to the Rose Bowl victory……..

Chow??? You have to be kidding me!!! He is a Trojan, once a Trojan, always a Trojan…

Carl Belknap @ 1:01 am:

Rick should have been our first choice after Donapuke left. He should also have been our first choice after “Terry” Toledo was fired. Rick even called Donapuke & asked him to put in a good word for him to Guerrero. On top of that, he said he would take a pay cut from what he had been receiving at Washington. By the way, Dullard was an assistant to Rick at Colorado. Why did we hire the assistant & not the head coach? I’m tired of the Dullardistas who say we shouldn’t get Rick because of his past history. Well if they mean his 11 & 1 record & a Rose Bowl victory in what I believe was his second year at Washington (UCLA has never won 11 games in their history, or that he bet on a basketball pool with the approval of Washington’s athletic director (who happened to have come from U$C) & was later fired by her because he had bet, then was cleared of any wrongdoing by the NCAA, I guess they’re right in their belief.

Tom @ 9:58 am:

The Short List…UCLA could attract all of these candidates for various reasons. For some we’d need to open up the checkbook like never before. I list these in my personal order of preference. I give no rationale but welcome thoughts and debate. Let’s bring it on. Remember, before you fire a coach you need to have a better one lined up. Not that a better coach than what we have now will be hard to find. I just want our new guy to quickly be identified as the best in the Pac 10. So here they are….

1. Rich Rodriquez (Head Coach W.VA)
2. Rick Neuhisal (NFL assistant)
3. Norm Chow (NFL assistant)
4. Jeff Tedford (Head Coach Cal)
5. Butch Davis (NFL assistant)
6. Mike Bellotti (Heach Coach Oregon)
7. Tom Cable (NFL assistant)

Emily Yacoobian @ 5:15 pm:

I think we need to start a petition to fire KD. Guerrero obviously doesn’t understand how fed-up the fans are, so we need to be insistent and in-his-face. What do you all think about starting one?

DumpDorrell @ 5:24 pm:

Emily, it’s a great idea, and one we have considered in the past. The timing wasn’t right at the time. But now it may be! We are working on the tshirts right now, but if you want to come up with some text and email it to us using the contact page that would be very helpful. We will promote it along with our fellow Bruin brothers and sisters on other sites. Feel free to include any of the text on this site or add whatever you feel is convincing and to the point. We can all modify it as needed. We can put it online and make sure everyone “signs” it and then get it to DG.

Emily Yacoobian @ 6:19 pm:

I think the petition looks great. Points are well made, and I think it was important to include how Dorrell is affecting school revenues. Well done!

DumpDorrell @ 7:02 pm:

Thank you Emily. You rung the bell. The timing is right.
