Gameweek - Stanford
We start this week with a new opponent, amid hopes that we can rebound from two ugly games and save our season. And we couldn't ask for a better opponent in Stanford, the dead last, worst defense in the country (470+ yards per game against). Unspoiled by victory, 0-4 Stanford is generous when it comes to yards on the ground (300+ per game). They would give up more in the air were it not for the fact they are so giving against the rush. On offense, the Cardinal isn't much better, ranked in the mid 70s in the country (320 yards per game). They are much better at the pass, 223 ypg, than the rush, and they have a senior QB who can throw and who's passing efficiency is close to BOs. But their offense can't compete against their defense. It's got to be tough for Stanford, who have opened their new stadium to their worst season since the early 80s.
We hope that Svoboda and Dorrell have learned now from two consecutive lessons on how not to call plays, and open up the offense. They will be rewarded for it. And so will BO. Give the guy some plays. Give the players a chance to win this game coach! You cannot go wrong against this D. This is as close to risk-free as one can get in college football. Rice should have been, and that game sinks our confidence in this game somewhat, after all Rice is only a few positions better in defense than Stanford. But we have no doubt that we will win this game. You will see KD and staff glow after this victory. They will confidently say they have "learned" and "grown" from the previous two embarrassments, and are "back on track." It's all smoke and mirrors, and soon the truth will be revealed against Arizona. But we move too far ahead. We will get back on track against Stanford, but it will be a short-lived reprieve and so we have to take advantage of it. We need to open up the offense to get our guys confidence back. We expect the defense to do well. All in all, this will be an easy win.
